It's 'Monro', not 'Munro'! From Independent's 60 Things about the Queen etc.

Re: Monday 10 October - RTE Lyric FM - Marty Whelan

I had a rather distracted listen to this at work . Michele was , always, delightful and Marty's enthusiasm was great to hear. The joking about 'flanging' was hilarious! It will , eventually, be available for 'listen again via this - http://www.rte.ie/lyricfm/marty/ This listing includes the MM track...

'Matt Monroe'

Richard Moore has written of how a break through in his search for Matt's master recordings happend when it was realised that some of them were filed under 'Matt Munro'. Bad as that is it is astonishing when yet another variation of Matt's name goes beyond paperwork in a file and ends up on a high p...

Re: 'Mono' Matt

Thanks Richard. The more I think about it I should have realised that what you say is the obvious answer. Matt's demographic from the start was more likely to be the more sophisticated , stereo owning type, as opposed to the teeny, beat group crowd who would have been happy with mono productions. I'...

'Mono' Matt

A Matt Monro purchase I made today got me thinking about yet another aspect of his career. The latest , it seems, wheeze for the record industry is to try and persuade us to buy the back catalogue by favourite acts in the 'Mono' format. Until 'Stereo' became the abiding format in the late 1960's mos...

Matt song in Travolta action film

The latest John Travolta film ' From Paris With Love' is a hugely enjoyable romp, full of cartoon violence and some witty dialogue. A unexpected addition is the use of a song by Matt. In a sequence where Hardman Travolta is speeding through the streets on the way to save the World (or something) he ...

Info. needed about a 1937 reference.

Elvis Costello debuted a new song on U.S. radio last night. In his usual way , he didn't explain much about it. A friend tells me - 'I'm also very curious about that mysterious new song...Possibly called "Lancashire Station". He said it takes place in 1937. It was hard to catch with just one hearing...

Re: Special Reserve

The package arrived today. First impressions are good - this really does Matt justice. I've had a semi-distracted listen at work to the disc with the sessionography book - it's nice to hear Matt's voice with minimal accompaniment , really brings out the warmth in it. The lack of a index is a pity bu...

Re: Singles Collection.....WELL DONE Richard!!!!

I've just had all five discs of this set on random on my multi disc player while catching up on some reading. I haven't , of course, heard every track but some songs just seemed to leap out of the speakers. The fullness of the sound is breath taking , bringing out elements I just don't remember hear...

Rare Monro highlight 'During One Night'

A track from Rare Monro that I keep coming back to is 'During One Night'. It has to have one Matt's most perfectly pitched performances. I daresay I'll find out all about it when the deluxe edition of Michelle's book gets to me . Presumably it's from the 1961 film of the same name - http://www.imdb....
