Hi Lena & Harry, Yes, I agree the Westlife/Roy combination was excellent. I think the most technically proficient one (i.e. hard to seen the joins) was McFly and the young Lulu. I guess this will start a trend, and we can look forward to more of this in 2007. I imagine the amount of work that has to...

Duet Impossible
Ye Gods,
I just watched Duet Impossible on BBC1 and through the magnificence of modern video technology saw Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy perform Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It was simply stunning, and moved me to tears.
I'm glad I had the foresight to record the show as well

Hi Marian, We didn't actually live in Peterborough, but a rather old, nice little village called Glinton, just to the NE of the City Centre. Peterborough seems to be developing in an interesting way with some new "hamlets" sprouting up round the main city itself. It was very convenient, rural life, ...

London
Hi Fellow Londoners, This has become an interesting discussion  First to the cap I am wearing - I never was that successful at rowing, though I have a few trophies, pennants and tankards from around the place, Putney Regatta, York Head of the River etc. The cap is from Boston, USA, which I boug...

Birth Places
Hi Lena & Harry, Too true, the world's getting a scary place these days, and no-one seems to be able to keep the baddies in check anymore. Either some righteous twit intervenes on behalf their human rights, or the judges let 'em off anyway....wouldn't happen if the Krays were about :) I feel way sor...

Kilburn
Hi Lena & Harry, Being from the "Gateway to the Sarf", I cannot claim much knowledge of Kilburn, I'm afraid. The only real memories are that it was that place just after Regents Park and St. Johns Wood, and before Cricklewood and Hendon on the way up to the M1 in the days (late 1970s) when I had to ...

FORTY FAHSUND FEVVERS ON A FRUSH
Hi Lena & Harry, Ah, good old Johnny Brown from London Town was born in Lambeth Walk.........Billy Cotton and his Band. I was born not far from those parts, in Balham, as mentioned in the famous Peter Sellers ditty, so not a real Cockney, though I know must of the lingo since me Dad worked down the ...

Hi All, Good old Rolf Harris (nothing personal, good on ya me old cobber) must rate quite high on the list of some people's most favourite appalling songs, as it were. The Xmas that Santa bought my first every electrical doobry (a Grundig reel-to-reel mono tape recorder), I remember Rolf drove us nu...

Hehehe.... My reply to Marty was the answer, not the next challenge  I haven't got a new challenge for y'all at the moment, and we are packing for hols this afternoon, so will be away from the forum for a while. In fact, since we are booked to fly to the USA tomorrow morning, the whole thing is...

Hi Terence, Thought I would follow up your post on Something As I said, I used to prefer Shirley Bassey's version too, but I am loathe now to classify anything as "the definitive version" for the fact that improving technology over the years allows re-workings of great songs that can never be achiev...

Hi Marian, Yes, the opening chord for A Hard Day's Night is played on the electric guitar only, and is a D7sus4 if you want to know the details  As you say, this is an unmistakeable one note opening that everyone gets when we play beat the intro. An interesting chord that sounds almost discorda...

...and another Something - The Beatles The Beatles undoubtedly contributed greatly to our musical heritage, so I've decided they deserve a place in my favourites list, mainly on account of their song-writing abilities. In my opinion this was George Harrison's greatest contribution, and the opening c...
