Re: THE ALTERNATE MONRO

My copy arrived today (from Sainsbury's - a pound cheaper than Amazon, too). I'm just enjoying my first listen. It sounds glorious so far.

Matt's voice

I've been listening to Matt's first two albums, Love Is the Same Anywhere and Sings Hoagy Carmichael, and it seems to me that his voice is higher and lighter on the first album, and deeper and more mature on the second. Did he actually sing in lower keys, or was he simply using a different part of h...

Re: BRITISH HIT PARADE

Cherish was most definitely recorded by the Association first. It was written by the group's lead singer Terry Kirkman, and their version was released in August 1966. It was number one in America for three weeks in September and October of that year. David Cassidy's version wasn't released until 1972.

Re: 'Matt Monroe'

It's worth remembering that the fact that other people can't spell Matt's name can be an advantage on eBay.

I always search for all possible spellings of Matt's name, and I've picked up bargains where I've been the only person bidding because the name has been misspelt.

Re: MATT MONRO SINGS HOAGY CARMICHAEL

Thank you for the explanation, Richard. It worries me slightly that this means that the album will only sell to those of us who are already dyed-in-the-wool Matt Monro fans. This album is Matt's masterpiece, and it might just be possible that it would win him some more fans if it were released by it...

Re: MATT MONRO SINGS HOAGY CARMICHAEL

Will Matt Monro Sings Hoagy Carmichael be available separately from the audio book of The Singer's Singer?

The famous coughing clip

BBC Radio 7 has just broadcast a tribute to Kenny Everett called Happy Birthday, Maurice Cole. About 10 minutes before the end it features the legendary clip of Matt Monro singing We're Gonna Change the World where he ends up coughing and spluttering. You can listen to it, or download it, from iPlay...
