A BIG hello
A BIG hello
Hello everyone.
I am a new member and I'm still trying to get over the shock of receiving an email from Michele Munro. I think the email had a virus as for some strange reason I developed a large lump in my throat and my eyes started watering. The song 'Misty' came to mind.
I am a vocalist down in South Devon and perform at small local hotels and clubs. I usually say to my auience that my very favourite singer is the best singer there ever was and that he was British. Without hesitation, several will immediately shout back at me "Matt Monro'. That really fills me with joy. There are just so many fans of his out there. I always make a point of telling them about the DVD 'An evening with Matt Monro' as I find it such a pleasure to watch. Being able to watch him perform his entire act from beginning to end is a real pleasure.
When I listen to his songs, I never cease to be amazed by the quality and clarity of his voice. Those perfect notes and that lovely warm tone. I joke with my audiences about Matt's real name and say that I wonder if he would have been as famous had he been known as Terry Parsons. We always agree that with that voice and personality, there can be no doubt that he would.
Warm regards to everyone
Mac

Re: A BIG hello
Hi Mac, welcome to the forum, it's always good to meet more Matt Monro fans. We've taken a look on your web-site and it's such a happy web-site, and you really seem to be enjoying singing and entertaining your audiences.
We enjoyed listening to your songs and WELL DONE with Matt's Portrait Of My Love.
Matt and his music is still admired and remembered at functions and venues up and down the country but anyone who attempts to sing like Britains finest ever vocalist deserves praise.
Keep posting Mac and join in the discussions about Matt, and more or less just about everything else

Hello Folks
Many thanks for your kind and welcoming comments.
I am feeling mortified and embarrassed. I checked my original post thoroughly. I corrected several mistakes. I previewed it. All appeared well. I posted it and immediately spotted an appalling mistake. There is was surrounded by flashing lights, standing out like a sore thumb. I have often commented on people who are unable to spell 'Monro'. It is made all the more ridiculous when they are selling an item with Matt's name clearly stated on it. How can they do it????? Well, now I know. It was there at the top of the screen whilst I typed it. Not that I needed it. I know the name so well.
It could be a senior moment. It could be blamed on the medication. But no. In this case I think it is just down to my being a buffoon.
I won't be posting now for a while as I am off to stand in a corner and may be there for some time.
Warm but humble regards
Mac

Re: A BIG hello
Mac, that punishment means Fifty lines...The name is MONRO,
but as Matt himself said...it's easy, it's an anagram of MORON.
Anyway, you are in good company here. A few of us have senior moments now and again, so don't stand in that corner too long.

Yes, we have all done it Mac--in one way or another.
Never mind, you have put on a nice pic of yourselves for us to see.
Come back to the Forum soon, we will be glad to see you, and hear more about you.

Re: A BIG hello
Hello again
I'm out of the corner now. I've been beating myself with birch twigs and decided to stop when I realised I was enjoying it.
I've had a rather busy week. Four gigs in a row. One was last minute and involved driving out to a place called Chudleigh on Dartmoor to perform in a Pub (not something I normally do). It was supposed to be for the Battle of Britain anniversary. The brief was to sing Sinatra style songs plus war songs. On asking the audience, they weren't to keen on hearing war songs so they got a fair helping of Matt's music, as it turned out (surprise, surprise) quite a few of them were fans.
I am very much looking forward to the release of the Singles Collection. I shall put in an order for it as soon as I can.

Re: A BIG hello
Good to know you are busy Mac, pubs or wherever, and Chudleigh is a nice part of the country to perform in, and the residents have good choice in music.

Re: A BIG hello
Hello Folks
I've not done any of this forum business before, so my apologies if I shouldn't actually be wittering on in this section.
I have had some nice gigs lately with some lovely audiences. Then again I suppose the only nice gig must by its nature involve a really nice audience, whether it two people or two hundred. As long as they are enjoying the music then it's got to be a good one.
As usual there have been so many Matt fans. Although I do songs from Sinatra and Dean Martin etc. the greatest response is always from those that love Matt Monro. Some are very knowledgeable too. I have met various people who have met him. From fans who have met him for an autograph after the show to a lady who used to be a singer and dancer. They have all said how nice he was. One said he was the proverbial nice bus driver. No airs or graces, just a very nice man.
It is usually a Matt Monro fan that will come up to me as I'm packing away and comment that I left out a song. I always tell them they should have shouted out, but they usually say that they didn't like to. So I tell them that if they come back again next year they must shout and remind me. It's usually a song I would have loved to have sung, but only on request. Matt certainly did some very lovely songs. Ones that can tug at the heart strings.
I'm feeling a little disappointed at the moment as I will be singing this Saturday night. The same night that Matt Jr. will be singing quite close to my home when he is at the Babbacombe theatre. I would have loved to have seen him. Ah well, maybe next year.
Love to all.

Re: A BIG hello
Hi Mac, a belated welcome to the forum!
Re: A BIG hello
Wish you lived nearer us so that we could come and see you sing the great songs that you are singing, particularly Matts.

Re: A BIG hello
Hi Sandra and Hi John
I'm sorry I haven't been around on line much lately. Thank you for your very kind comments and for the welcome. I'm not sure you are missing much by not seeing me really, but I certainly enjoy what I do. I just wish I'd started it at least thirty years earlier.
I did a charity do at a church hall last week in aid of Childline. They only wanted half an hour, so I decided to do a tribute to Matt. Once again there were a good few fans there who were shouting out answers to the little questions I fire at the audience. It was good fun and I think they enjoyed it. I managed to get in my usual advert for the DVD 'An evening with Matt Monro', which I think is such a great DVD showing Matt's whole act from start to finish.
It's now all quiet on the bookings front till the end of October, but in November it picks up again with the usual 'Tinsel and Turkey' holidays. Fortunately, most audiences when asked, say they don't want Christmas songs, which I'm thankful for. Well, at least until we get well into December
Maybe you could pop down to Devon for a few days holiday next year. It's quite nice down here you know. Well, it is when the sun shines. Or maybe one day we could all get together for a bit of a doo.
Love to all
Mac

Re: A BIG hello
A big welcome from me also Mac.
Re: A BIG hello
Hi Mac,
Nice to 'see' you. Don't worry about mis-spelling the masters name in the body of your text, when you goof-up in giant green letters on your first intro message, you'll know you've really arrived.

Hello Folks
I've been a bit busy of late. Mostly editing together a video of my Wife's holiday and cruise in the U.S. which was a present from our Son and his Wife for our Wedding Anniversary. My Wife, Patricia, ended up going without me as I was already booked on several gigs. But she had a great time as my Son and his Wife plus various of their friends and family went along too.
Anyway, it means the computer has been fairly tied up and I've not had much time to scout around. I'll be back on Sunday afternoon to catch up on things properly.
Hello Gray, thanks for the welcome. Hi GregT good to hear from you and I can just imagine how you feel. Just the sort of thing I do myself. You have my deepest sympathy.
All the warmest
