Hi everyone!
Just wanted to say hello to everyone on the board! I'm new here and my name is Eman or some folks call me Eamon. I'm from San Diego, CA. I recently got into the wonderful music of Mr. Matt Monro a few weeks ago when I heard "Walk Away" on a friends various artist cds. Then last Friday I was in the garage with my Dad going through boxes of our old records as he was looking for his Mantovanni lps (ick) and I stumbled upon 3 lps. I took them out and cleaned them and fell in love with the music. I then went to our local bookstore and had them order me some cds. I then decided to check out the website and correspond with Ms. Michele Monro who directed me to the board. What a lovely gesture!! :-)

Anyway here's a story for you all that happened today. We had our Friday meetings which I had to administer and since everyone thinks that I am an old stick in the mud and am a little too strict, I started our meeting by turning on the song "On A Wonderful Day Like Today" and started singing complete in my suit and tie. Shocked everyone. Then I told them to loosen up as today was wonderful and plus it's Friday!! They soon warmed up and the meeting, which I admit is a tad too serious, had a different feel to it. So the wonders of Matt Monro's singing and mine (ugh if you can call it that) warmed up my normally timid staff.

Take care everyone hope to hear from you all!

Hi everyone, thanks for the warm and wonderful welcome. Hopefully we can chat more about Mr. Monro. Like I said I'm new to his music and being of the rock and roll/soul persuasion, it's quite a change for me. However I'm into all sorts of music and I would say my tastes are eclectic. Thanks again for the wonderful welcome!! :D

Hi again Eman--you will find that we all have lots of other singers that we like--from all genres, but Matt is the one that we all have in common. So glad to hear that you have discovered Matt, as I can see he is very different to your usual taste. We are always happy top talk about Matt and his music, so join in any time.

Thanks Mariana!
Like I told Michele in an email, I kick myself when I think back of the opportunity that I had to get Matt's lps when I lived in the Philippines but didn't. I dismissed them as music I wouldn't listen to..:( I was so keen on the Bay City Rollers at the time (guess you could guess my age huh) and was probably the only one in that country that wore the gear and knew about them. It was quite a blow for me to move there away from all the Rollermania in the States and the UK.

Anyway as Michele told me better late than never discovering Matt's music and I am loving it!! I ordered Michele's book on Amazon and I can't wait to get it!!

Wow--Bay City Rollers--a blast from the past--my sister was really keen on them at one time. Now she is into Westlife--I cannot get her to listen to Matt !!

Oh Mariana,
I'm guilty...I love Westlife, McFly, Boyzone and I even went to Manchester in the 90's just to see and don't laugh TAKE THAT!!!. I think I may be one of the few to know those bands. Thankfully my job lets me go on travel to places like Germany, Spain, so I can pick up the cds when I go. Sometimes ordering cd's from Amazon or on line is risky cuz they send you damaged stuff...Hope I'm not weirding anyone out.

Yes the BCR's..I would not leave the house without a stitch of tartan. LOL..

Now my favourite song by Matt Monro has to be Walk Away. Yet I'm still listening and I love how he sings "The Impossible Dream". I get emotional when he sings "For Mama" as I can feel the emotive quality in his voice. I still have my Mom and Dad, but gee Mr. Monro's rendition brings a tear to my eye.

Well Eman, we remember all the rock and Rollers that you've mentioned, and believe it or not I like "Take That. can name the group and it was in the 90s when I was buying there videos mainly for our son. I particularly liked them because some of their songs were Middle Of The Road, and a pleasant relief from all the previous ear shattering heavy metal stuff.
Boyzone also made some great recordings. If Tomorrow Never Comes and No Matter WhaT Two favourites.
Paul, our good friend on the forum and from the USA will be happy to know that you enjoy his kind of music too. Mc Fly et.c :)

Wow! Thanks for the info Mairiana. I'm gonna look for that cd on my next trip to Europe. :-) If all else fails, then Amazon or Ebay it is. :-)

Today I was going into to the office after mass and I was wearing my Jefferson Airplane t-shirt and then when I pulled up to the office, people were kinda giving me a strange look because my car was blasting Matt Monro. Must have been the t-shirt and then the music from the car that clashed! LOL..I was listening to the double cd Matt Monro Complete Hits that was released in the Philippines. I had a cousin send it to me. Great stuff on that one! :D
