Walk Away

Post by karl » Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:39 pm

Has anyone noticed how a different intonation in three little words in a song can make it so much more poignant?

I refer of course to Matt singing "Walk Away", on the original record and also on early dvd footage Matt does not sing it this particular way but on the Australian concert he almost whispers "Goodbye My Love" and it becomes much more meaningful - the first time I heard Matt sing it this way I am not ashamed to admit I was in tears and they do not come easily to me, that's the sign of a great artist when they can move you this way.

Before closing, I have a very old album with Brenda Lee and Pete Fountain and Walk Away is a track on that LP and Brenda's version is also very good.

Just realised this should have been under entertainment, though I'd mention it before a certain person does!

That's nothing Karl. At our fan club meet-up when Matt was on screen singing " SOMEWHERE" in a crowded but totally hushed room, at the end when the lights went up it was a mop and bucket job

Not to mention "Maria"--as I recall, it was a very stunned silence from everyone--that version was just magnificent-I remember it like yesterday.

I know what you mean, six years ago I saw Petula Clark in concert for the first time as the other times I'd seen her were in the musicals The Sound Of Music & Sunset Boulevard - I knew she would be good but she was absolutely brilliant, she closed the first half with Tell Me It's Not True (from Blood Bros) then rushed off stage - I turned to speak and found I had a huge lump in my throat!
I met her after the show and she was so friendly.
