Hi Marian(a),
I seem to have 'pairings' on the brain. The following
is a literary variation on the theme; another extract
from you-know-what. Forgive me.

LOVE & MARRIAGE

An upsurge in the numbers of couples
appearing before registrars of English usage
has been recorded. The rise is being attributed,
in part, to the advent of civil partnerships.
Hereunder is a list of recent official couplings:

Better & Half
Blushing & Bride
Eager & Beaver
Fairweather & Friend
Fine & Dandy (CP)
Kindred & Spirit
Man & Friday (CP)
Quantam & Leap
Reliable & Source
Tickled & Pink(CP)
Yours & Truly

As long as language makes us laugh be sure,
these literary pairings will endure.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Note. The italicised lines are taken from
sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare.
A poetic affirmation of fidelity in marriage.

So let me have a 'stab' at this with 'Mack the knife' and Mr Bobby Darin (surprised you'd didn't beat me to that Mariana!). Bobby is also synonymous with 'Beyond the Sea' in my book.

For me, Robert Goulet = 'Come back to me'
Julie London = 'Cry me a river'
Cliff Richard='The Young Ones'
Dave,Dozie,Beeky, Mick & Titch = 'The Legend of Xandau'
Brenda Lee= 'I'm Sorry'
Matt = 'From Russia with Love', 'Portrait of my love', 'Walk away'
ABBA = 'Waterloo'
Kathy Kirby = 'Secret Love'
Connie Frances = 'Lipstick on your collar'
Dean Martin = 'Amore'
Perry Como = 'Magic Moments'
Judy Garland = 'Over tha rainbow'
Bobby Vee= 'The night has a thousand eyes'
Helen Shapiro = 'Walking back to happiness'
Shirley Bassey='Goldfinger'
Nancy Sinatra='You only live twice'
The Drifters='There goes my first love'
The Seekers ' Georgie Girl'

I think thats enough for now, in case I'm doing it the wrong way around!

Mariana, for me Dionne Warwick = 'I say a little prayer for you'

Not sure about Cliff as he has not really had many of his songs covered by othe artists.

L&H - I don't think Sandie Shaw would be happy for you to remember her by 'Puppet on a String' as she never liked it. That was #1 on the day I was born, which may explain my 'Eurovision' gene! She may prefer to think that 'There was always something there....' to remind you of another of her big hits!

Hi John
I thought I should breathe new life into this
game and with Lulu's help wake everybody up:

SHOUT, by the blond bombshell from Scotland;
the phrase I remember Matt using to introduce her
on a television show many moons ago.

ROCK ISLAND LINE, by Lonnie Donegan.

The original was ostensibly about The Chicago,
Rock Island and Pacific Railroad; it is also claimed,
however, to be about an underground railroad,
a slave escape route.
