Yes I knew it was a music hall song but streuth it's all cockney innit, all apples & pears!!!!

This was indeed a cockney song made famous by Marie Lloyd.
Keith is correct. the song was about those hard up times when people couldn't pay the rent and they did what was known as A Moonlight Flit... in other words they would wait till dark, pack their few belongings and move to other rooms that were empty, which was a whole lot easier to do in those days.
