Another wonderful movie.
RANDOM HARVEST with RONALD COLMAN and GREER GARSON.

A world war one soldier suffering from amnesia, walks out of a sanitorium where he is a a patient, meets showgirl, they fall in love, marry, have a child.
His memory is restored to how it was after an accident and he has no recollection of iis marriage, but all finally ends well.

A STAR IS BORN---- JANET GAYNOR AND FREDERIC MARCH.

There have been two remakes but this I think is the best one.

Frederic March plays a faded Hollywood star who meets waitress Janet Gaynor.
He introduces her to his contacts and she becomes a big star while his career grinds to a halt and he turns to drink.
Another tragic ending.I'll find a happy one soon that I have enjoyed!

" THE SOUND OF MUSIC"--this film has it all, the music, the actors, the scenery, the story, which is why I love it--but it also has a sentimental connection for me.

Just over 40 years ago, I was working as a Bank Supervisor, and going through a divorce-. George was in the same office as me , working as a Bank Messenger, and had recently separated from his wife. He delivered work to me, and took work from me elsewhere, and we chatted to each other--as you do--then we started going out for a Lunchtime drink--but we did not go locally, as we wanted to keep things discreet. After a few weeks, we occasionally went out for an after work drink or meal, again where we were not likely to be spotted---then we went on our first real weekend "Date"-we went to see "The Sound of Music" at the Dominion. At that time, I had 3 boyfriends--but after that date I finished with all 3.

So, we were still managing to keep things discreet--then several months later, we went on holiday to Torquay--and on our first day--one of my co-workers spotted us, on the last day of her holiday !! When we got back, everyone knew that we were an "item" as they say now.

"The Sound of Music" always remained one of our favourite films, and we watched it many times--and I still love it.

What a nice story to tell us all Marian :) so you were spoilt for choice, boyfriend wise 8)

I love all the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films, but my absolute favourite has to be FOLLOW THE FLEET, co-starring Randolph Scott and Harriet Hilliard :) ......................two of my favourite bits from the film are when Harriet dolls herself up, with a bit of help from her sister played by Ginger (Harriet looks dazzling) in order to gain the attention of sailor Randolph................... I also love it when Harriet sings two beautiful ballads in the film (1936) :) :)

that is so cool Marian. I remember my first official date with my husband(after 8 years of being JUST friends) it was to a Harry Chapin concert and I still love his music.
Robert, I dont think I realize Harriet Hilliard was in that movie but her music talent certainly was passed to her son Ricky Nelson.
I think one or my favorite movies of the 40's was Yankee Doodle Dandy. I love the music

The song Over There in Yankee Doodle Dandy was sung by one of my favourites Frances Langford :)

I so agree with you Robert. I love Frances Langfords voice. I love all the old musicals of the 30's and 40's. The people had to be able to sing, and there were lyrics and melodies. I am just not a rap kind of person.
Has anyone mentioned "The Wizard of OZ" yet, or its reincarnation "The Wiz" with Michael Jackson. Also all of the Gold Diggers movies especially the ones with dick Powell.

Marian

Thanks for sharing your story, I really enjoyed reading it.
You know I crackers about 'film', and just love hearing stories of sentimental value placed on a film.
Your story is just perfect for me.

Thank you.

I'm glad you liked my little story of how George and I met--although over 40 years ago, it is still very clear to me.

"CASABLANCA" a true classic movie , with Humphrey Bogart, and the truly beautiful Ingrid Bergman. Together with a fantastic movie theme, I love it still.

Lovely story Marian. We know how special George was in your life and Casablanca was an all time and memorable movie.

Another one for me was ...MY FOOLISH HEART. with
SUSAN HEYWARD and DANA ANCDEWS. :)
