Favourite Childhood book

Another one of my favourite series books--the "Katy" books--by Susan Coolidge---"What Katy did" -- "What Katy did at school" -- "What Katy did next"--I read them all lots of times--but funnily enough , I only just realised about 5 years ago, that there was a sequel called "Clover", telling the story of Katy as a married lady, amd more about Clover's life as a young woman. I have also discovered that there is yet another sequel, that I have not been able to track down.

I read the usual children's books and particularly remember ones about Mr Grimpwinkle and his cat, including books such as "Mr Grimpwinkle's Marrow". Haven't come across them since.

Enjoyed all the Katy books Marion especially as they were part of the Regent Classics that I used to read.I think they were from Woolworths and were Two and Sixpence.
I am trying to collect the Girl annuals.There were only 9 in the original format although they went on after that for a few years.

Hi all, Harry here. I read many books as a youngster, and most were wonderful. "Coral Island" "Robinson Crusoe" any novel by H.Ryder Haggard or James Fennimore Cooper and of course the "Tarzan" books. But my favourite was the Comics that came out weekly "Wizard" "Hotspur" and "Champion" anyone remember them? Full of great stories and characters. Happy Days

I used to get the same comics as you Harry, Hotspur, Wizard and Champion, then we would swap them at school for Beano and Dandy, Chips, and Film Fun.
My favourite books were the Biggles series.

One book that I recall vividly from my childhood was called "Advenrures with Rosalind"--I have never managed to track ot down, and I never knew the author.

It was about a liitle boy, very ill in bed, who was reading a book--Rosalind was one of the characters, and she came out of the book, and took him on lots of extraorinary adventures.

I must have read hundreds of books as a child, so why this one has stuck in my brain all this time, I shall never know.

Hi Peter. I also enjoyed the Biggles books, i wonder if this had any reason for you joining the RAF? C.S.Forrester was another favourite of mine, Hornblower and the great sea stories. Much better than TV.

The Adventures of Rosalind was by an author named Charlotte Austen, Marian (after a bit of research).

Thanks John--how did you find that out----I had searched several times on Google etc.

The Biggles adventures were probably why Peter chose the RAF for his National Service Harry.

Hi Marian, I just typed in the name under Google and it brought the books up and the name of the author etc.

I have had a look now--but no sign of the actual book anywhere-
I have now put it on ebay as a favourite search, so if it turns up they will let me know.

I am surprised that noone has come up with "Billy Bunter" yet--those books always made me laugh--with his schoolmates Bob Cherry and Harry Wharton, and the Indian one--Hurry Jam Singh--or something similar, along with the Head teacher Mr Quelch-I did not like it much when they introduced Bessie Bunter.

I have a very vague recollection of it being serialised on Tv--and an even vaguer recollection that Christopher Biggins played Billy Bunter--but not 100% sure on that.

I always loved "The Secret Garden" and "A little Princess" by Francis Hodgson Burnett.--Both now made into films, which I have not seen.
