Hi Lena and Harry and all. Thank you for the information Lena and Harry, and i'm pleased you heard Max Bygraves singing "Any Dream Will Do", don't you think it is a smashing version of the song. Desmond Carrington still sounds tremendous, doesn't he.

Hi Robert, Nice to know that Desmond has been given an extra slot after he was ceremoniously removed from his Sunday Two hour programme, after Twenty One years, even though it's only for seven consecutive Fridays.
Mind you next week it's Gracie Fields, ( the lass from Rochdale... keeping t' mill open and all that) :( you may not remember her Robert, but then again you might, if you remember Eleanor Powell
The next Friday gets better with Ronnie Hilton, great singer he was probably UKs runner up and closest contender to Matt during that era. :)

Hello Lena and Harry. I don't remeber OUR GRACIE
Everyone know's our Gracie don't they. 8) 8) I know she had a rather grating Lancashire accent (sorry if you live there). Gracie was just about as famous as Vera Lynn wasn't she, during the war period or just afterward's.
Do I look that old Lena and Harry.!!!! :o :o I do remember Eleanor Powell, but only from watching her on the Silver Screen in film's on TV or the new DVD.!!!!  :) :) Those were for you Lena and Harry. These are for the lovely ELLIE 8) 8)

Hi Robert, We reckon you're a youngster compared to us   and bet that you have to clock on a few years to catch up with us, :( :i Gracie Fields was a well loved and great entertainer throughout her career for the troops during the war with songs from comedy and sentimental ballads.
Eric Hall often reminisces of the time when, after being away from the country and absent from the public and stage for a long time she made a one night come back appearance in a show here in London and sang that lovely ballad "Take Me To Your Heart Again" and you've guessed it.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Tissues out for this one Bubellehs.

Hello Lena and Harry. OK I admit it, I am younger than you, but probably not as much as you would think I am. I'll give you a clue. When England won the 1966 World Cup Final, which I have written about on another page today, I was No. ?? Downing Street. Got it.

By the way "Bubellehs", I listened to Jimmy Roselli talking to Eric Hall on the "listen again". It was interesting, but either Jimmy is going a bit "mutton jeff" or the equipment was on the blink. It's the Frank Sinatra special tomorrow. I cannot believe a week has gone by already.

Robert yes, we agree we were confused listening to Jimmy Roselli and thoght he was totally deaf or we were, but the sound improved a bit later.
We will be listening with Eric today to the Sinatra prog . What's the betting that he will mention our Matt :?: :)

Hi all---firstly, I think I have worked out your age Robert, but I would like to know---is that an old photo of you, or do you have a Portrait in the Attic    .

It is amazing that Vince Hill has never been mentioned on these pages ,[to my knowledge]. He was a great favourite of ours--"Look Around" was a song that we really loved. But I am going to nominate another song.

It is a gem of a song written by the very talented Neil Sedaka, just tucked away on an old LP, and hardly given the light of day--

Vince Hill---"For Peace and Love"

I also want to nominate another great song, also tucked away on an old LP, and I have certainly never heard this on the radio either--

Shirley Bassey "Perfect Strangers"

I had the opportunity of talking to Neil Sedaka about these songs, and he told me that "For Peace and Love " was his son's favourite song!

Hi Marian

Vince Hill used to appear on TV every week when I was a kid. Unfortunately that was overexposure and he became known as the "cover version" guy. I only have His Greatest Hits on EMI. Out of the 21 tracks there, I picked "The Importance Of Your Love" to play and sing regularly as a kid. Your favourite song "Look Around And You'll Find Me There" is what I would probably like most of all if I listen to him today.I can't relate to some of his songs like "Roses Of Picardy" & "Little Bluebird".

Hi Mariana44, Robert , Terence and all, Now Robert, we are as curious as Marian regarding this portrait that may be tucked away in your attic, :? and although we admire your MODESTY on the subject   wasn't it Hurd Hatfield who played that part in "The Picture Of Dorian Grey
:?: :?: :?:
But like the song goes, .... Keep Young And Beautiful If You Want To Be Loved. :P :P Good for you Robert. :) We like Vince Hill, and grew up with his music. We e-mailed him recently
and received a nice reply from him. He was guest on Eric Halls Sunday programme just about three weeks ago, and web-host Frank E Dee plays his music regularly on his web-site www.gmmy.com along with Matt's and many others.
Vince also has his own web-site and has a CD due out very soon.

Hi Lena and Harry and all--I did not know that Vince Hill had his own website---I shall have to have a look at that--Good to hear he has another cd out soon--the last one I bought featured the songs of Diane Warren---but It had no exposure at all.

But I am glad to know he is still recording.

Hi Robert , there's one thing for certain Matt's " Portrait Of My Love" has brought pleasure to more people than Van Gogh and Rembrandts paintings ever did.

Hi Lena and Harry--I checked out the Vince Hill website, but disappointed to see that the new cd is just a couple of old cd's repeated--it would be good to have some new stuff!! Marian
