Fire / The Crazy World of Arthur Brown

Got a scrapbook full of quotes I can't recall at all. There were times I felt the world belonged to me.
Re: 1 Hit Wonders
There have of course been many one-hit wonders down the years and I've made something of a speciality of committing them to memory. Without looking them up on the internet (or anywhere else), can you tell me who performed:
- Classic ("Gonna write a classic, gonna write it in an attic...")
- Pinball
- I Touch Myself
- Winchester Cathedral
- Afternoon Delight
- Ships In The Night.
No cheating, now!

Re: 1 Hit Wonders
I'm not cheating, Jon.
I think I Touch Myself was by a group with the name of Divinyls or something like it.
Afternoon Delight was by the Starland Vocal Band.
Winchester Cathedral was by the New Vaudeville Band. That's a classic one hit wonder.
Another is Venus by Shocking Blue. It seems like the early '70s had many because producers formed these groups of studio musicians and gave them names like Edison Lighthouse, White Plains, etc. Speaking of White Plains, there's My Baby Loves Lovin'.
I've never heard of your other songs, Jon.

Re: 1 Hit Wonders
Hi Paul
Thanks for you reply. The three answers you give are correct. 'Classic' was sung by Adrian Gurvitz, and 'Pinball' by Brian Protheroe; maybe they weren't hits in the US but they were heard everywhere in the UK when they were released, especially 'Classic' (which I don't like incidentally). 'Ships In The Night' was by Be Bop Deluxe, a kind of soft rock group from the 70s; it was a fairly big hit over here.
It's funny you should mention 'Venus' by Shocking Blue as I was almost tempted to include that among my list of questions - I very much like their version and consider it far superior to the one by the 80s British girl group Bananarama, which, like much 80s pop music, sounds artificial and insincere; Shocking Blue's recording has much more integrity.
Are you familiar with the Doobie Brothers? I've been listening to some of their songs lately and rather enjoying them. I especially like 'What A Fool Believes'.

But it has just reminded me of
ANITA DOBSON --ANYONE CAN FALL IN LOVE [EASTENDERS THEME]
Did I say before that our Curate's wife is called Anita Dobson. They have moved now-I think they went to Africa.
