Ok---here is a clue.

The first part is a song--I am not sure how well known it is--I have known it since I was very young. It is associated with Scotland.

The second part is a singer---a country type US singer--very very well known.

That's what confused me. I thought the Country singer's name came first.
:? :? I'll get my thinking cap on..

I will give you another clue to the singer--he is a big US country/popular singer and has been for many years--has had lots of big hits, and has been mentioned several times on this forum.

It was the Scottish song I was stuck on Marian, not the Country singer so much. Anyway, got there in the end.
Here's my next one then...

Can't really think of a clue at the moment, only that it has quite a sad title. Something to do with love that you don't really want to do.
I'll have a look to see if I can find more info that will help with a more helpful clue.

Right, lots of clues... It is a "Pop Standard" and has been recorded by many artists over the years including, The Mills Brothers, Peggy Lee, Fats Domino, Kay Starr, Connie Francis, for whom it went to #13 in the U.K charts in 1959, Richard Chamberlain, and Michael Buble.
There was also a popular parody version by Spike Jones.
Hope that helps!!
