Your all time Favourite songs, sung by other Artist's
Hi Robert--just caught your post re the weather--I had a friend who moved to Halifax last year from down here in Kent---she could not believe the cold winter up there--I think Halifax is in Yorkshire , isn't it??
I will keep my fingers crossed that you get some of the nice weather that we have been promised. We all deserve it after this long wet spring---it is really frustrating down here, that we cannot use our hose, and have been advised to buy water-butts!!

Hello Mariana44. I too love "Friendly Persuasion". That and "April Love" must be the two best recording's Pat Boone ever made, surely.
Yes Mariana44 I had the original single version of State Fair from 1945 starring the gorgeous Jeanne Craine, a very young Dana Andrew's, and the multi talented dick Haymes. But when the 2 disc edition came out a couple of month's ago I too bought the 2 disc DVD. I gave the single disc one to a neighbour. I also bought the 2 disc edition of South Pacific, which is probably my favourite all-time musical. I love Mitzi Gaynor in the film. I especially love the scene on the beach of her singing "I'm In Love With a Wonderful Guy". She look's so lovely.
I also have the single disc edition's of Oklahoma and Carousel, both are magnificent musical's too.

Yes Mariana44 Halifax is in Yorkshire. If you lived up here, imagine what you would have to wear while walking your little dog's.

Hi Robert---firstly, did you see an article in yesterdays Daily Mail, that said Yorkshire has replaced Kent as the most attractive county?? I have to say I have had many visits to Yorkshire, and found it just beautiful--apart from Bradford---apologies to all who live in Bradford--there are probably some nice areas there--I just did not see them !! I also think if the weather is as cold in Yorshire as it is still down here, I would be wearing my Thermals and Wellies, when I take my doggies out.
Going back to the musicals---my favourite bit in "South Pacific" is "There is nothing like a dame".
"Carousel" is my favourite musical ---it was the very first LP that I bought with my first Saturday wages, and I played it non-stop as it was the only LP I had. So I was disappointed to find on the double "Carousel" dvd, that "You're a queer one Julie Jordan" was accompanied by still pictures!!
My favourite part of "Carousel", was not in the film, and I did not know of it, until I saw it at the "National " theatre in London-it is the Bench scene, between Julie and Billy, that ends in "If I loved You" -I was lucky a few years back, as I videoed a programme from TV celebrating 100 years of
Richard Rodgers, and included in it, was the first half of "The Bench "scene, with Sally Murphy and Michael Hayden, who starred in it on Broadway. It is also on the 2nd dvd, of the 2 dvd set from the New York Production, I believe.
I have 7 different recordings of "Carousel"--my favourite is the 1995 National theatre production, with Michael Hayden and Joanna Riding--also includes the "Mr Snow" reprise--I never knew that such a lot had been missed out of the film. I also have the original New York recording : The Broadway cast recording: the Film Soundtrack : a studio recording with Barbara Cook as Julie, and Sarah Brightman as Carrie : another Studio recoding with Dave Willetts and Claire Moore, and also a Japanese version.!!!

Hello Mariana44. It has been a bit warmer today in Yorkshire, the sun makes all the difference doesn't it, bit cooler now though.
I wonder why they decided to cut that particular scene from "Carousel" Mariana44. Maybe they thought the film would have gone on a bit too long, so had to make some cut's to it. I think the film last's about two and a half hour's on DVD. For some reason they nearly alway's seem to cut the best bit's out. It is still a terrific musical though, with Shirley Jones and Gordon MaCrae's great singing talent's on show.

Hi all--we do not seem to see Elvis Presley much on these pages--I was mad on him when I was a teenager--had posters in my room etc, etc.
My very favourite of his songs was a "B" side--I cannot even remember the "A" side, and it rarely appears on any of his compilations. so it may be unknown to some of you---my next choice is
"Elsis Presley---The Girl of My Best Friend"

Good choice Marian as I love this song. The A side was A Mess Of Blues. The funny thing is that A Mess Of Blues, the A side was #2 in 1960. The B side was rereleased in 1976 and peaked at #9.
Hello Mariana44, Terence and all. Do you all remember The Walker Brother's, from the 1960's. What a great voice Scott Walker the lead singer had, so deep and rich. My favourite song of their's, I don't think it was one of their biggest hit's is "Love Her" a gorgeous ballad, which I really love, pardon the pun. A soaring ballad, just my type of song.

Walker Bros
Hi Robert
All I remember of The Walker Brothers is "Make It Easy On Yourself". Their songs are not played often on the radio.
Regarding "Love Her", I have only heard the version by The Everly Brothers.

Hello Terence and everyone. Terence, the Walker Brother's had many hit song's in the 1960's, they were massive. Scott Walker the lead singer is actually American, but what a fantastic voice he had, and still has. During his solo career Scott Walker had a few minor hit single's, one I particularly remeber is "Jacquie" a very uptempo tune. Terence i'm not sure if The Everly Brother's version of "Love Her" is the same song as the Walkers Brothers song.

Hello Lena and Harry, Terence and all. Yes Lena and Harry, "Joanna" is a fabulous ballad, I momentarily forgot about that one.
Another great song, this time from the 1950's, sung by a British hearthrob of the time is "Cara Mia". Sensationally recorded by Hull's -David Whitfield, I believe the song spent about nine week's at the top of the British chart's, in 1955 I think it was.

Hi Robert, David Whitfield was one of the most popolar singers around in the Fabulous Fifties as it is known.
He made so many great recordings, among some favourites of ours.....
" My Wonderful One" " Beyond The Stars " " I'd Give You The World " and one also made famous by Dorothy Squires "When You Lose The One You Love"
There is a commemoration plaque and Memorial Garden for both David Whitfield and Ronnie Hilton (another wonderful singer), in Kingston Upon Hull where they were both born.

Hello Lena and Harry and all. I thought that Ronnie Hilton originally came from the Leeds area, but I have checked and he too did come from Kingston Upon Hull. But I do remember that he lived in the Hornsea area in later life (Hornsea is a seaside resort on the east coast). As you have already told us, he is on Desmond Carrington's after seven show on Friday this week, I think. Will have to listen to that.
I do know that David Whitfield spent his remaining years living in Australia.

Hi everyone---that took me back reading all those names from way back-I remember them all---The Walker Brothers---- and of course David Whitfield ,Ronnie Hilton, Dorothy Squires, all sadly no longer with us. It sometimes makes me feel very old , when I can recall them all so clearly!
But as we all seem to be in a nostalgic mood at the moment, I will also go back to the 50's, but to someone who is still around and still singing and recording---the song I have a chosen is a very little known song, but perhaps a little more upbeat than is normally associated with him, and I really love this song, and often listen to it still. It was in fact the "B" side of a quite big hit at the time called "My Love for you"-
So my choice this time is
Johnny Mathis---"Oh, That Feeling"
