My favourite song of all time - well actually I have two are:-

Matt Monroe - Walk Away - just love the way this song builds on its self..
One of the first songs by Matt Monroe that I ever had the pleasure to listen to.....



Meat Loaf - 2 outta of 3 aint bad - this is our song, and when the going gets tough, just a listen to this song, puts everything into perspective...

Hello dottie and everyone. While on the subject of Meat Loaf, who I am a big fan of, my favourite Meat track is "Read Em and Weep", which if I remember correctly was the follow up sinlge to "Deadringer For Love". Do you remember dottie? "Deadringer" was hanging around at the bottom end of the chart's for a few week's, then the next week it shot up in to the top ten. I remember being very excited about that. But "Read Em and Weep" rather surprisingly failed to dent the chart's.

Hello Mariana44 and all. I am not 100% certain, but 90% certain, as I seem to remember Barry Manilow did record the song. I'm sure I heard him sing the song on a few radio programmes a few year's back. I cannot believe there would be two track's called "Read Em and Weep" knocking around.

Yes you are correct, also Barbra Streisand recorded "Left in the Dark" another Steinman number..........

Good gracious where have we been these past years. We've never heard of "Read Em And Weep." Ahhh but we have heard of Walk Away.

Jim Steinman is also responsible for many of Bonnie Tyler's hits like Total Eclipse Of The Heart. His trademark is ostentatious rock ballad which requires a powerful voice to carry it off.

I have also not heard Read Em & Weep so fret not Lena & Harry though I swear it is on my double cd set of Barry's hits. The trouble is I have gone to sleepsville by the time this song is being played.

Hi Lena and Harry, Terence and all. You made me laugh again Lena and Harry, I had to wipe my eyes to concentrate. Meat Loaf is not your cup of tea Lena and Harry, but if you heard Barry Manilow sing "Read Em and Weep" I think you would like the song, very much.

Terence, Bonnie Tyler recorded an album with Jim Steinman instead of Meat Loaf, as I believe Meat Loaf and Mr Steinman had a disagreement at the time, a bit like now concerning who hold's the artistic right's to the phrase "Bat Out of Hell". I think they are going to court over it. But at the time Bonnie Tyler recorded her album with Jim Steinman because as well as the disagreement, Meat Loaf had been suffering from a throat problem for a long time. So actually Bonnie Tyler's album was supposed to be the follow up to Bat Out of Hell, but obviously Meat didn't record that album.
"Total Eclipse of the Heart "was a mega hit around the world, but I actually preferred the follow up single "Faster Than the Speed of Night" (the same name as the album title, which went straight to No.1 in the album chart's) the single was a fantastic rock dynamo, but the single virtually bombed in the chart's.
Terence give "Read Em and Weep" a listen, you won't regret it, honestly.

Terrence -- I can understand. I would go to Sleepsville also after listening to Barry Manilow! I only like three songs: Daybreak, It's A Miracle, and Copacabana. The ballads bore me.

I believe Nikki French is re-releasing her dance version of Total Eclipse Of The Heart next week in the U.K. Talk about a song that has staying power!

Hello Paul and everyone. Barry Manilow is definitely not my favourite singer, in fact he is classed as a bit of a singing "joke" in certain quarter's in the UK. But you cannot dismiss all of Barry Manilow's ballad's. For a start he covered Meat Loaf's "Read Em and Weep", and I also love his "Somewhere In The Night". Very uplifting ballad.

Sorry, Robert, but Barry Manilow ruined Somewhere In The Night. Helen Reddy had the best recording of Somewhere In The Night. No one else can come close.

Hi again Paul. Shall we agree to disagree on that Paul, as I like Barry Manilow's version a lot. I haven't heard Helen Reddy's version, but it would take some going for me to like her version of the song better, as Mr Manilow's version is implanted in my head.

I agree with Paul that Helen Reddy has the better version where Somewhere In The Night is concerned.
Barry always sings his ballads the same way.....he starts off with just his voice and piano and it sounds okay. In the chorus however, his voice is inevitably lost despite being multidubbed which makes it a most unpleasant experience.

Last month I heard a most terrible version of some 50s hit while shopping at Tesco and it was so bad I had to ask who that awful singer is. Turns out it was Barry Manilow who had just stormed the U.S charts with his new recording of 50s hits.

Hi Terence--yes you are right--Barry's latest cd is called "Hits of the 50's"
or something like it, and I have to admit I was disappointed big-time with this cd--it seemed as if it would be great---great songs---but no--there is probably only 1 track on there that I really liked. Normally I really like Barry Manilow--or I used to--I hate to say his voice is past it's best, but I do believe it is.

Hello everyone. I can see what you mean about Barry Manilow's layered voice on his song's Terence. "Somewhere In The Night" is the only song by Mr Manilow that I really like.
