Firstly, Sorry Marian for butting in with my clue, before I had checked that the answer was correct.

Secondly, yes you are quite right Harry and Lena--I had several ways of starting and just got it wrong at the last minute.-I will correct it, so that it makes sense.

And sorry Jeff--you are wrong--I am curious as to how you thought of that answer.

Marian--is your one--"Morning has broken "--I do not ever remember hearing Matt sing that song, but it is on the list so he must have.

I'm proud of my guess I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten for Marian from Kent's clue about New York and Times Square. As you know, crowds gather at Times Square in NYC on New Years Eve. A red apple or ball is dropped from a tower at midnight after a countdown from 10 to 1. Everyone has their eyes open to watch this. So the opposite would be: I (certainly not a crowd) Close My Eyes (as opposed to having them open to watch the ball drop) And Count (from one) To Ten (the opposite of 10 to 1). Isn't that a good guess? :) :?:

So they all look up and watch for a red apple or a ball that's dropped from a tower on New Years Eve Paul!!!
They wouldn't have done anything like that here particularly in Trafalgar Square with Five Thousand pigeons flying from every direction.
  That was up until a couple of years ago when loathsome Ken put a stop to it.

Before we were married, Peter and I went up to Trafalgar Square on New Year's Eve, just the once, as we found it very disappointing. Apart from Big Ben striking midnight, nothing happened! No fireworks, not even any pigeons
It was quite scary in that big crowd too, especially when everyone started moving. Anyway, we survived, but didn't go again.
Liked your description and explanation Paul! Good one Robert!

Sorry Marian, your answer still isn't the one. I'm having to give yours a lot of thought. No ideas yet though.

That was a brilliant explanation Jeff--it's almost better than the real one !!

Except I did not know about the custom in New York and Times Square etc.

New York is quite crucial to this clue---but it could just as easily have been The Oval Office in Washington--or the Circular Trail round Boston.

That's 4 clues there.!!

I shall have to keep rethinking on yours Marian-I thought I had it then

Is this the answer to mine--or Marian's from Reading ??

If it is mine, then it is wrong!

As I said before--New York is an important part of this clue, although I could have gone for Boston--or Washington---I think that may give Jeff an idea---but he is probably too busy celebrating

Sorry, Marian, it's not One Morning in May"..
It's getting confusing now with both us Marian's having clues at the same time. I'll sign Marian & Peter if you like, as he is a member of Friends of Matt Monro, and would take part on the forum if he wasn't so computer wary!
