I've never heard anything by this singer, but it seems she sang a lot of covers. I guess everyone did back then, including Matt and Dusty. Perhaps the three Jon mentions are her own hits as I don't recognise the titles.

Paul, Cilla Black had an album on Capitol called "This is Love" it was a compliation of her UK tracks as was the practice at the time. It had a garrish drawing of her. It wasn't a big seller though from what I know but the hit was "You're My World".

I also love Scott Walker's version of "I Don't Want To hear It Any More", which was also recorded by Dusty Springfield.

I too am surprised that Paul has never heard of Cilla Black. I think her UK Number 1 "You're My World" got to Number 25 (or so) in the States, though she was never as successful there as she was in the UK. Cilla was a major protege of Brian Epstein, the record producer, who regarded her and The Beatles as his two most important acts in the 60s. Check her out, Paul, and let us know what you think.

I agree the song both Scott and Dusty recorded is great. Scott was a guest on one of Dusty's tv shows and they did a fantastic duet on Let It Be Me, considering they were both on the Philips label they should have recorded it.

I wrote that I didn't know Cilla Black's music, but of course I've heard of her from this forum and Radio 2. Maybe I've heard her played occasionally on Radio 2; nothing made an impression. I checked my book and her only US top 40 hit was You're My World which got to #26. So she had a very minor impact in the US. I'm more familiar with the Helen Reddy remake.
