I don't think it's the same song. The Carly Simon song is from 1980 and up tempo with a chorus of "Jesse, I won't cut fresh flowers for you". It is a fantastic song. It didn't chart in the UK, but was a hit in the US, Canada, and Australia.

Shirley Bassey's Jesse is probably the one recorded by Roberta Flack, with the lyric "Jesse come home, there's a hole in the bed". A lovely song, written by Janis Ian.

Yes it is the Janis Ian song, Shirley does a beautiful version. I have a 5 Classic Albums set by Carly but Jesse is not included.
