Songs I wish I could hear sung by Matt.

I know Matt recorded many many songs--but how about the ones that got away!!
I thought it would be fun to name a song that we would have loved to hear Matt sing. It can be an old song, or a modern one. A little information on the song, if it is a little obscure, plus if you have a special reason to nominate that song, it would be interesting.
I am going to start with "You had me from Hello". I believe it was in the film "Jerry Maguire", but I know it from the Michael Ball Album "A Love Story" the reason I have chosen this one is simple---I love it, and I also think it would have really suited Matts voice .

Hi Mariana44- One song in particular that I wish Matt had recorded is the marvellous "From Here to Eternity". Engelbert Humperdinck sang it on the Ed Stewart show a couple of months ago. His version of the song was excellent, but I thought what a great job Matt would have done with the song.
My tears will fall now that your gone

Hi Robert---that is a good one! There are loads I can think of, and I bet everyone out there has lots of ideas too.
Here is another one from me "People will say we're in love" from "Oklahoma"---although that is usually sung as a duet---how about "Surrey with the fringe on top" instead---I can almost hear Matt singing that one!!

Hi there
You have all come up with some excellent suggestions, but how about 'Sometimes When We Touch' by Dan Hill?
Beautiful song - beautiful lyrics - Matt would have made the song his own...
#You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you
On what you say or do?
I'm only just beginning to see the real you
And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides#
Have great weekend everyone

Given Matt's versatility and his collaborations with George Martin, I think he could have done some great things with more Lennon & McCartney or George Harrison penned lyrics, which Martin had a definite way of arranging for not just The Beatles but for other artists as well

Hello everyone. A classic song thats been around for a while from the film Breakfast At Tiffany's starring and sung by Audrey Hepburn is MOON RIVER. Both Andy Williams and Danny Williams (not related, obviously) both sang well known versions of the song. But I can just imagine Matt singing these beautiful lyrics-
"WERE AFTER THE SAME RAINBOWS END, WAITING ROUND THE BEND, MY HUCKLEBERRY FRIEND, MOON RIVER AND ME".
My tears will fall now that you gone

I would have loved to hear my dad sing "When I Look into Your Eyes" in English, it seems that Abbey Road cannot find the original track that dad laid down, but I am including the Spanish version of The Rare Monro which is beautiful as well

Hi everyone---I love the idea of Matt singing "Moon River"--it will also be interesting to hear the Spanish version of Michele's choice. Matt did actually record a few Beatles Numbers, but there are many more that would make a good choice, I agree.
I have another one from way back, and I have never understood why Matt never recorded it, as I am sure it would have been a great version---one of my all-time favourite songs [out of many!!]---
"The Way you Look tonight"
Even Don Black mentioned it on "Countdown" once, as being a song he would love to have written.
"Some day, when I`m awfully low, When the world is cold, I will feel a glow just thinking of you... And the way you look tonight."

in the still of the night, once again i'll hold you tight.
though you're gone your love lives on when moonlight beams !!
Words... by Mitchell Parish and Music by Peter De Rose
And this one.... "My Heart Stood Still "
Though Not A Word Was Spoken I Could Tell You Knew
That Unfelt Clasp Of Hands Told Me So Well You Knew.
By the famous duo... Lorenz Hart and Richard Rogers.

Hi Lena and Harry---I love "My heart stood still" one of my favourites--I actually enjoy Rod Stewart's version--although the verse at the beginning always mystifies me---
"A house in Iceland , was my Heart's domain,
I see your eyes ,and castles rise in Spain"
Maybe I have misheard the words, but it is another a brilliant choice.

Marian we do have Rod Stewarts "The Great American Songbook"
His former Rock and Roll music did little for us, although our son was a fan and had his Rock and Roll CDs and videos, but we do really like these.
Here is another from Rod's CDS We can just hear Matt singing this one "Where Or When"
It Seems We Stood And Talked Like This Before
We Looked At Each Other In The Same Way Then
But I Can't Remember Where Or When.

Hi Lena and Harry and all--yes I have all the American songbooks and love them all---although I never really liked Rod Stewart"s singing before.
I have another 2 great ones--
"They can't take that away from me"
"How about you"
I especially like Bobby Darins version of "How about you", but I also think it would have been a great song for Matt.

Did he ever record the jazz standard "Here's That Rainy Day"? He would have recorded the definitive recording if he did.

Another beautiful Jimmy Van Heuson ballad made popular by Bing Moonlight Becomes You
He wooed and serenaded the glamorous Dorothy Lamour with this song in the "Road To Morocco " movie
We can hear Matt singing this one
Moonlight Becomes You, It Goes With Your Hair
You Certainly Know The Right Thing To Wear.
Moonlight Becomes You I'm Thrilled At The Sight
And I Could Get So Romantic Tonight.
