Not now--but very soon, I am going to listen to the Soundtrack of "Evita"--not sure which one yet--but I hope to be asleep before it is finished !!

Just been playing a couple of old lp's of Jerry Vale and transferring them to cd, some great covers of songs such as Rainy Days and Mondays and I Don't Know How To Love Her.

Last night I listened to the whole cd of "Tell Me on a Sunday" with Denise Van Outen--I had not realised how many great songs in it---plus some funny dialogue--mostly written by Don Black--music by ALW. I really enjoyed it. I had already heard Bernadette Peters version, and did not like it at all, a really strange accent in some parts, but it seemed to really suit Denise.

Tell Me On A Sunday Please

Post by Terence Lee » Sun Jan 13, 2008 11:12 pm

Hi Mariana

I remember hearing this song performed live by Marti Webb when I went to the theatre for SONG AND DANCE many years ago in London. It was very touching.
There's this other song "Take That Look Off Your Face" sung by her which I liked as well.

The DANCE part was spectacular too with Wayne Sleep dancing up a storm.

I am sure I still have the cassette somewhere or at least the program.

Good times in London.......

I have been trying for ages to get the Marti Webb version--the cd is very difficult to get hold of and very expensive--£30.00 in Amazon.

I have tried several times to get the Lp from ebay, and have been outbid everytime--but I have a bid on another one at the moment, and hope to be successful this time--I rather think that Marti's performance will be the best.

Listening to David Jacobs playing Jerry Vale .. Just Friends.
Another great vocalist, don't think he ever made a bad recording.

Good news-I have just come on to the computer, and find that I have won the Marti Webb Lp "Tell me on a Sunday" for 99p, so I am really delighted.

I like Marti Webb as well, especially "Take That Look Off Your Face".

Although "Take that look off your face" is one of the best known songs from "Tell me on a Sunday"--plus the title track, I think there are several much better songs in this show.

I think I agree with you on that score, Marian...

I'm listening to The Carpenter's version of 'A Song For You' a lot at the moment.

When I was at university many moons ago a friend of mine played the album of "Tell Me On A Sunday" repeatedly on his stereo as it was a big hit at the time (1980 or so?). I'm surprised it isn't available on CD. Whatever happended to Marti Webb anyway? I used to confuse her with Marti Caine of New Faces fame, who I always associate with the song "What I Did For Love", which she used to sing on TV. Sadly now dead.

Marti Webb's version of "Tell me on a Sunday" studio version , is available on cd--but at a big price. The live recording is a bit easier to find.

It is true that Marti Webb does not seem to be heard much these days.

Strangely enough Jon, I used to get the 2 Marti's mixed up as well. It must have been because we were so young at the time.

I think Marti Webb does quite a lot of touring in shows like "The Magic of the Musicals". Well she did a few years back when I saw her with Dave Willetts.
