What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
Re: What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
I've always enjoyed the really scary/horror films that build up the tension, but the ones they make today all seem to be gory slasher type movies that are just yuck!
Re: What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
I agree Marian, apart from the odd good one.
They are few and far between though.

Agreed! There's a new one that's coming out here tomorrow I think it's called "Insipid" or something like that and it's supposed to be like Poletergeist of steroids. Heck I was too afraid to go see "The Rite" so I dunno if I wanna brave this one..

Most of our evening was reliving the 60s and 70s. An evening of TOP OF THE POPS on BBC 4. Some great music.

Did anyone watch "The Unforgettable Diana Dors" in the week-I just caught up with it. She was an amazing character--but it all ended in tragedy.
It could be a repeat-it seemed vaguely faniliar.
I think her life would make a great film.

We saw it Marian. I think it has been on before.
Re: What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
I alway liked Diana Dors, I remember when she used to be on breakfast TVAM in the mornings with a diet programme, I think it was called Diet With Diana, or something like that. That was only shortly before she died, I know it was always on before I went to school.
Re: What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
That is right John-they showed a little of it on the programme, and apparently she also became ill about that time.

Yes Marian, it was a shock when she died, I didn't know she was ill.

This is taken from Diane's Wikipedia page
Dors was a guest on a 1977 episode of the British TV show Parkinson with the actor Kenneth Williams and the anthropologist Desmond Morris (whom Dors said she had dated when they were teenagers in Swindon). Dors commented on the frequent deaths of young blonde sex symbols, including Jean Harlow and Jayne Mansfield, and said she hoped to emulate Mae West and live a long life. Dors died seven years later, aged 52, on 4 May 1984, from a recurrence of ovarian cancer, first diagnosed two years before.
Dors left a mark on popular culture: the "50s blonde bombshell look" popularized by Dors and, in the U.S., by the actresses known as the "Three 'Ms'" -- Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren and Marilyn Monroe.
A likeness of her appears on the cover of the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
Her untimely death is referred to in a 1984 song, "Good Day", featured on the Word of Mouth album by The Kinks; it includes the following lines: "The headlines say that Diana is dead/She couldn't act much, but she put on a show/ I used to fancy her a long time ago.."

Well they were definitely wrong about "Couldn't act much" as she was an excellent actress, especially in the character roles she did later in her career.
My father used to say she died in Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor, but that might or might not be true.

Yes, she was a good actress Marian, she was particularly good in one of the Hammer House of Horror TV films and one of the Thriller TV series. plus I always remember her with the Two Ronnies in one of the serials they did, was it the classic "The Worm That Turned"?
Re: What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
I couldn't find her in any of the serials they did John, but she was in their 1980 Christmas Special taking the part of the Commandant. On her IMDb page there is a list of 103 acting credits to Diana Dors.

Re: What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
Yes, I have just looked on IMD myself Marian, and it does only state she was in the Christmas episode, perhaps she was just in the one episode that stuck in my mind. I remember she was the leader of this group of women that took on the roles of men, and the men were the women, if you know what I mean.
It was definitely the Worm That Turned anyhow.
Re: What Movies Have Been Playing On Your DVD/Video Lately?
I always thought The Worm that Turned was a weekly segment in their shows, following on each week ?
