Hi Lena and Harry-I am sure you would have done really well if you had been on the TV"Name that Tune".

Have you seen [or heard] "Hey Mr Producer" which is all about the works of Cameron Mackintosh---he actually introduces it with "We said we wouldn't look back", and apparently it started him on his show biz career. A very talented man--and a great guy too---after Lionel Bart sold all his rights to "Oliver, when Cameron did his own production at the Palladium, he gave Lionel Bart a percentage of the takings.

Poor Lionel--such a brilliant composer---but it all went wrong for him-till Cameron came along and saved him.

Who remembers the advert that Lionel did for Abbey National--normally adverts drive me mad, but I loved that one!

And sorry, Robert---the other hand is gone--- for good

Marian, we didn't see Hey Mr Producer, we should have done, a reminder of all those great songs from the shows.
Very sad about Lionel Bart, specially after such a show business career and west-end sucessses, Blitz and Oliver e.t.c.
Cameron Mackintosh also donated the proceeds of two evenings shows to the Institute For The Blind.

I'm writing this while listening to Sarah Kennedy play "Non Je Ne Regrette". I like Edith Piaf's music very much. I'm probably the only pianist in the U.S. that plays "Padam Padam", which was never available on record or CD in the U.S. There was an excellent programme on U.S. public TV back in the early 1980s. I will have to listen to the BBC Radio 2 special; thanks, Robert, for mentioning it.

I believe Sandie Shaw was featured in today's Popmaster Quiz on Ken Bruce's programme on Radio 2. I'm not familiar with her, but from the audio clip she seems to have an interesting voice. I will have check out her CDs, including the recordings in German.

Hi Paul---this will take us back to our Eurovision discussion from some time ago.

Sandie Shaw was the first British artist to win Eurovision--I cannot remember the year-it is probably in one of Mikes Postings. It was a good few years back, I know that. She sang "Puppet on a String" and appeared barefoot.

She had a few more hits after that, and I think she married Jeff Banks who was a clothes designer. She seemed to give up singing for a while-I heard that she did not like being associated with that Eurovision song.

But I think she occasionally sings now.

Hi all. "Puppet on a String" won Eurovision in 1967. One of my favourite Sandie Shaw songs is "Always Something There To Remind Me" in 1964.

Hi all Sandie Shaw was married to Jeff Banks , but they divorced and she married Nik Powell.
Marty mentioned about her great recordings in German.
She also recorded in Spanish, French, and Italian.
One song that we particularly liked was her recording of Monsieur Dupont.
All good stuff from the girl from Dageham who was discovered in the Sixties by Adam Faith. :)

I'm listening to Elliott Yamin singing 'Moody's Mood For Love' which is an improvisation of 'I'm in the mood for love' 'Moody's Mood For Love' was written by James Moody and became a huge hit in the States.

I had never heard this song before watching American Idol this year and just loved the way Elliott Yamin sang it, Elliott came third by the way but I thought he should have won, he has a great voice and I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more of him.
old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

Hi Diane--there was quite a long discussion re American Idol---on "The Entertainment "section-go to American Idol.

I loved the whole show from beginning to end, and I thought Katherine should have won--certainly not Taylor.

However , Paul was convinced that Elliott should have won, and sent in a long posting about Elliott and the show.

I have to admit, I have not heard him since-or any of the others come to that. The only won who made it really big so far is Kelly Clarkson, who is not my kind of singer, plus to a lesser extent Clay Aiken , who only came second. Fantasia seems to be lost without trace!!

I am currently listening to Bobby Darin and Petula Clark, duetting on "All I have to do is dream"--on my I-tunes.
