Why where the kids allowed in Gray ? .......what age limit is the film ? ...........if the kids were accompanied by an adult, I think the adults should have raised objections

We watched a Max Bygraves DVD last night that John gave us and for some reason wouldn't play on our old player. So thanks John !!!
It's sad to know that Max is not too well right now suffering with Alzheimers.
His wife Blossom passed away last month. They married in 1942, so had been married for 69 years.
They moved to live in Australia Three years ago.
Max is said to be devestated and is now in the home where his wife died. :(

We watched the 1941 movie "Lady Be Good " last night with Roberts favourite Eleanor Powell, Ann Southern, Robert Young, and a host of other well knowns.
Boring old story, but the music was good, and Eleanor Powell's dancing is the best we'll ever see.
One of her dance routines included a dog who she trained herself to perform with her, so you see, all these recent tryers with their dogs on BGT and XFactor is nothing unique, it's all been done before. :) :)

Yes L&H, quite a boring story line, but as you say Ellies dancing in this film is awesome :) ...............the dogs name was Buttons................doesn't Robert Young look young  I remember him best as being older in TV series Marcus Welby MD. Doris Day had a very minor role in the film too, and this is the film that gave us the song The Last Time I Saw Paris, Oscar Hammerstein wrote the song after learning of the German occupation of Paris.

Storylines did sometimes seem bad on those innocent old movies, but time has marched on now and anything goes where dialogue is concerned so makes it easier to get a story over.
Robert Young died over Ten years ago and was married to his late wife Betty Henderson for 61 years, and made over a hundred movies.
We never watched Marcus Welby MD on TV. :)

I thought that the song "The last time I saw Paris" was from the film of the same name--starring Elizabeth Taylor--I do believe, but not 100% sure on that.

From Wikipedia..
The Last Time I Saw Paris is a song composed by Jerome Kern, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, published in 1940. It was sung in the 1941 film Lady Be Good by Ann Sothern.

The song was not written for the film, and Hammerstein said the song was "not written to order", and by December 1940, six versions were on the charts, with Kate Smith having exclusive radio rights for the song for six weeks. The song catered to a nostalgia for songs of European cities following the Battle of France (which brought Paris under Nazi control), with "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" also proving popular.

"The Last Time I Saw Paris" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1941. This was Kern's second Academy Award for Best Original Song (following his success with "The Way You Look Tonight" in 1936), and Hammerstein's first.

"The last time I saw Paris" was a film, in 1954 with Elizabeth Taylor, and Van Johnson [who I thought was in the film-but not 100% sure]

It was based on a story by F Scott Fitzgerald, and the song was featured in it--kind of background music--I remember it well.

There are several dvd versions of this on Amazon--some at only 1p---plus pp.

Funny you mention F Scott Fitzgerald, Marian, I have just yesterday finished reading The Great Gatsby - and I really, really enjoyed it.
I understand it is supposed to be one of the great American novels - I can see why, it was beautifully written.
