Hi Mariana

Did you manage to find the Kenny Rogers CD that contained Buy Me A Rose?
I bought the compilation CD for this song.

Here's the original 1999 album with Buy Me A Rose :

It's sadly out of print.

I am listening to the "Carpenters Lovelines" album now, another great one, "Honolulu City Lights" playing at the moment. Some lovely songs on here, including "Where Do I Go From Here", "The Uninvited Guest" and one of my desert island selection, "You're The One".

Terence, the Kenny Rogers cd that I have with that song on is a double cd called "All the hits and All new love songs"--so it is a mixture of old and new--also includes "You decorated my life" which is another Kenny Rogers number that I love.

I also love "Lovelines"--especially the Title track, also "Where do I go from here" plus "If I had you"--which I think i mentioned very recently-sorry !!!!

I am listening to Andy Williams singing "Whistling In The Dark" from his "B Sides and Rarities" cd. 8)

May I just ask if most of you like compilations or the original albums? I think that compilations are value for money as all the hits are there but a friend of mine prefers the original albums as he thinks that it is important to listen to a song in the context of that album so that he gets the theme of the album in the flow of the songs.

I tend to like both Terence, but I do like original albums very much because there are usually a lot of lovely songs that go unheard or get forgotten because they don't end up on a compilation. 8)

I agree with you John---there are so many unrecognised gems on original albums---whereas with compilations, you just get the same few tracks over and over and over........

I would choose the original albums every time. It's nice to have a few compilations, but I would always want the originals as well. :D :D

I have just made a compilation of my 12 "desert island" song choices, plus another 12 that nearly made it, to fill the disc up, so been listening to that tonight.

John--that sounds like a lot of nice listening there.

By the way can I clarify something-I just spotted on your list

"If I could read your mind"---I thought it was

"If you could read my mind"---or is it a different song---or am I wrong??

I guess that, overall, I prefer original albums as compilations mostly tend to contain "the same old stuff". But much can depend on the arrangement or order in which the tracks appear, and this can sometimes make a compilation appealing. The thing that most annoys me about compilations, though, is when they contain just one or two songs needed to complete a collection and the thing costs too much, making one agonise about whether to buy it to avoid missing out on a potentially great track.
