I wondered about that Lena and Harry when we watched the film and thought it could have been filmed near to you. :)

John, I did a search on "The Torture Garden" on Wikipedia. The plot does sound familar and so do the charachters especially Burgess Merideth as Dr. Diablo. I do recall watching this one as a kid on the late night creature featue or Saturday afternoon Sci-Fi Theatre on tv. If recall right there was a whole genre of these movies. I remember one where there are passengers on a train and there is a spooky old man playing with tarot cards and draws the passengers in by telling them their fortunes with the cards. In the end it turns out the man is the devil himself and the people on the train have already died or been dead. I think the old man was played by John Carradine. That one freaked me out. With Halloween fast approaching, I'm sure there will be a bunch of these old movies coming out in double/triple bills on dvd. So hopefully I can find the Torture Garden. I like the old horror films (but not too scary) as they played with the mind and didn't concentrate on gore!!

Eman, funnily enough I watched that other you mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Peter Cushing played the old man on the train. This is called "Dr. Terror's House Of Horror's". Quite a good one too.And yes, there were several of these type of films made, some better than others.

John, we must be on the same wave length of something! :D . I thought it was John Carradine because he's always playing the creepy old guy or something. Thanks for the title and I'll seek that one out also. Do you remember 1973's "Asylum". I think that one had Robert Powel and he cut up his wife and stuck the parts in the freezer and then they came back to life to seek revenge. I love the good classic ones!!

I think there are one or two from that period that are set on a train Eman, so perhaps one did feature John Carradine. I have always liked The Hammer films, and similar from that period, some of them seem a bit dated now, I know, but still enjoy watching them. :)
I think I have seen "Asylum", it rings a bell, but probably some years ago.

Karl, I believe Asylum was done in 1972/1973 before "Jesus of Nazereth" which was in 1977, if I recall right.

Karl, it's worth it alone to see the torso coming out of the freezer and slithering around the floor seeking revenge!! Twisted I am, but that to me was the funny segment of the movie!! You need to see it to know what I'm talking about.

I remember Asylum, Eman.
I agree the body part sequence is laughable, but I loved the film for what it tried to do, offer scary stories with a twist in the tale.

I went to see Lawless last night.
A film about bootlegging in 1920's America.
I went with a buddy and he really enjoyed it, I thought it was average though.
Very violent, and, incredibly given some of the events that took place in the movie, based on a true story.

Gray, Asylum was good for what it was, except for the body parts segment. I saw Lawless and like you I really didn't think much of it. If it concentrated more on the story and not every 15 minutes of random acts of violence, maybe it would have stood a chance with me. Definitely not one for the DVD collection if it comes out.
