Lena and Harry, I was a few feet from him and he looked quite fit for 68 years old. :)

Robert: Tom Jones recognises the importance of staying current. His latest album 24 Hours is all him and it harkens back to his hits of the 1960s. They are great songs. :)

I was just talking with a friend that Tom Jones hasn't gone down the standard route, like Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow. I have no interest in hearing these people singing the same old standards (yawn), when you have the classic recordings by the greats and especially Matt Monro. I don't even like even when the newer artists record standards. Alan Titchmarsh played a version of Connie Fisher (of Maria fame) singing Someone To Watch Over Me. Perhaps the most boring three minutes ever. I know it helps expose younger audiences to this music, but I wish they would find some rare gems (or even consider the great operetta arias). How wonderful would it be to hear Ms Fisher sing Lehar, Romberg, and Herbert. :!: Why must they sing the same old songs over and over again? :?: :( I give props to Johnny Mathis because he has always found great new music to record and he puts them in his own special style.

We can see what you mean about songs being sang over and over again, particularly by newer discoveries, One or Two of them who are not really good enough to do these songs the justice that they deserve.
We haven't heard Tom Jones latest album, but will be interested to have a look and listen now.

That sounds just perfect , John.

I think it is a shame we do not hear much of Vince these days.

As you know Marian, I am transferring some of his LP's to cd. There are some lovely songs on these that I have never listened to. The problem with buying a cd is that often you don't hear a lot of these songs because they don't reissue them. They just tend to be a "Greatest Hit" selection etc. :(

Yes, same old cry isn't it You hear a new song that you would like of a singer, the CD comes out and you've already got the rest of the songs on it 15 times at least.

Yesterday for the first time, I did a download from Amazon-it was a cd, but I only really wanted one track- I was able to listen to it first---it cost me 79p--even cheaper than buying a cd single-and some tracks were even cheaper---it was easier than using Itunes downloading.

I do not know if it will work, if you do not have Itunes installed.

I downloaded a track a couple of weeks ago Marian (Al Martino's new song actually) and that was the first time I had done it.

The concluding part of the Carmen Miranda story was sad :( she passed away only hour's after appearing on the Jimmy Durante show. Carmen actually had a mild heart attack during that show.
