I have in my CD player 2 CDs courtesy of a friend who thinks I should listen to singers who can't sing for a change. So I am listening to The Best Of Lou Reed and Gary Numan's Dance album. These 2 albums charted and that's incredible for guys with voices of such limited range. Lou Reed in particular talk-sings as he cannot keep in tune.

I spent most of Columbus Day weekend listening to Italian singers and opera selections, as well as For Mama, And Roses and Roses, Come Sta, and Speak Softly Love by our Matt ... lovely performances of these Italian songs (or songs that sound like Italian songs).
I also listened to Jerry Vale's Live From Carnegie Hall album which includes a great Italian medley. I know many of you love his singing. I saw him sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Cleveland Indians baseball game around 1971.
And I listened to Catarina Valente. Was she popular in Britain, Netherlands, Malaysia, Philippines, and Australia?

Hi Paul
I find Jerry Vale's voice a bit too hard for my liking so I have limited him to 2 CDs in my collection.
Regarding Caterina Valente, I saw a lot of her on Malaysian TV when I was a small boy mostly as a guest in variety shows. A few of her twofers are on sale here but I can't find her album on CD that has the song LOVE SAID GOODBYE. I can't say she is popular in Malaysia. For European singers, Nana Mouskouri, Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour tower over her in popularity here.

Dear All, I've had a weird few months (when I haven't been here!) I've been listening to a huge amount of Syd Barrett (and who wouldn't be weird after listening to Syd for a few months???) and Gilbert O'Sullivan. Now there's a mixture for you. I'm currently listening to 'Stranger in Paradise', by some geezer who is as far from being either of those people as it is possible to be....

He has now, Maid Marian
He has actually been mentioned by myself a couple of times before Marian, as I mentioned Tony who is nearly 94 years old now, is married to the dancer Cyd Charisse. We'll forgive you though Marian. We'll call it another senior moment!!!! (one of many)

Stranger In Paradise
I only remember Tony Bennett's version in my mind. Who sings the definitive version I wonder?
