Received the Vic Damone "Inspiration" cd yesterday, it is a lovely album. In fine voice as well, I believe this was a later album for him.

Searching for Christmas stuff up t'attic t'other night, came across my late Mums albums. Have decided to give World of Donald
Peers a spin, though Please don't go is not there.
I am sure people can tell me about him?
The only thing I know from childhood till now ( only a few years, really
) is his name is the same as mine. Not Peers -obviously!
Merry Christmas, one and all btw

All I can remember of Donald Peers is "~By a babbling brook" which was probably his biggest hit--although he was very popular in his day.

Here's some info for you Don...
Donald Peers (10 July 1908 - 9 August 1973) was a popular Welsh singer.
He was born Donald Rhys Hubert Peers in Betws, near Ammanford, and quickly established himself as a crooner with several British dance bands in the 1930s. After World War II he achieved success as a balladeer on Radio Luxembourg. At the peak of his fame he even displaced Bing Crosby as the number one male singer in the UK at one point.
In the 1950s, he went to the United States to try and further his career but, by the time he returned, he had become virtually unknown. In the early 1960s, Peers had his own TV show which had guest stars including Tom Jones. By the late 1960s, however, his chart career was revived with a recording of "Please Don't Go", which reached #3 in the UK Singles Chart in 1969. Eddy Arnold had pop and country success with his cover version, the melody extracted from 'Tales Of Hoffman'. This was followed by a string of singles and albums by Peers, but it was not until 1972 that he had another hit with "Give Me One More Chance" which reached the UK Top 40.
He died in 1973, at the age of 65, after a fall on stage in Brighton.

I've been listening to the Leslie Uggams CD of Alan and Marilyn Bergman songs.. She sings "On My Way to You" and "Where Do You Start" beautifully.
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I also love the Maureen Mcgovern "The music never ends" cd--songs of Marilyn and Alan Bergman--it includes "Like a lover" beautiful song, and a lesser known song "Make me rainbows". She does not sing "On my way to you" on this cd, but it is included in another cd. I think this is one of the most underrated songs ever.
I also have another Bergman collection by Johnny Mathis-called "How do you keep the music playing"--singing "On my way to you"--lovely cd.
Does anyone else know of any other Bergman collections??

Marian had already mentioned the Lesley Uggams cd.
I think there must be quite a few who have recorded "How do you keep the music playing"--it is very popular.
So much so, I have quite a few friends from the Johnny Mathis fan club, who are sadly no longer with us--and they nearly all chose that song by JM to be played at their funeral.
Although I have to say it is not one of my favourites-either from Jm--or the Bergmans.
Was it originally a film theme--or am I thinking of something else--Burt Reynolds comes to mind--and maybe Goldie Hawn---not too sure about that.

Andy Williams and Shirley Bassey have also recorded "How Do You Keep The Music Playing". I also remember Al Martino singing it the first time I saw him in concert in 2004 here in Blackpool, he brought the house down with it. He never recorded it though.

Yes Al made a good job with this one John. Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole both made great recordings of this song too.

How Do You Keep the Music Playing is from the 1982 film Best Friends. I still prefer the original by Patti Austin and James Ingram. The worst Is that over-the-top version by Tony Bennett.
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
The first time I heard "How Do You Keep the Music Playing" was a live performance by Joe Francis.
I think it might have been with the BBC Big Band.
It was many years ago and also the first time I met Michele.

We love Tony Bennetts version, and we've always liked the Supremes, but with their version they could do with a firecracker up their backsides
