I don't know a lot about Captain and Tennille though.

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I don't like Jambalya either Eman, the only one I don't like from the "Now and Then" album. I loved the gatefold cover of the red car on this original LP.

Did you know that red car was actually Richard's Porsche? Also the house in the background was their home in Downey, CA. People drive by that house as it's still there but it's not owned by them any longer. That was a cool tri-fold cover!!
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I did not know that was Richard's car--very swish. There are a few Carpenters tracks I am not so keen on--but on the whole I like most of them--but I do not like "Superstar"--one of their big hits.
I have a couple of "Captain and Tennilles "cds-I guess there biggest Uk hit was "Do that to me one more time"---I also got that on a 12" single---and they were singing in Spanish--I think !
Also "Disney Girls"--and I loved "Muskrat love"

Yes, I thought it was Richards car and their house in the background, weren't Richard and Karen sat in the car? I am not all that keen on Superstar either Marian. My favourite "hits" are Only Yesterday and Yesterday Once More.
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Mariana, Wow that's great. I have all the Captain and Tennille lps and also on cd. They are still together and do the occasional concert now and then. I use to watch their tv show back when I was a teen. I even have some of them on DVD. It was good a wholesome variety show. Ahh miss those days...ok yeah now I sound like my Dad..

John/Mariana: I liked "Superstar" but did you know that song was originally called "Groupie" and the lyrics were changed? Rita Coolidge sang it on Joe Cocker's Mad Dog's and Englishmen lp. The Carpenters changed the line "And I can't wait to sleep with you again" to "And I can't wait to be with you again". I didn't like Luther Vandross version blah!!!

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
If I remember correctly, weren't Captain and Tennille on a music show with the Carpenters from the early 70's called Make Your Own Kind Of Music? I used to have some of these on an old video.
Eman, no I never knew that about Superstar.

I do not ever remember seeing Captain and Tennille with the Carpenters, and I have never heard of that programme--but it sounds good !!

Just checked it out-apparently aired in Us between July 1971--Sept 1971--and they went through the alphabet--it did not actually mention Captain and Tenille-just mentioned there were a lot of other stars.

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I think I recall seeing that show and the Carpenters were singing "Close to You" and Karen was sitting on a big letter "C". Then again I may be wrong as that show was on when I was in the second grade. The Captain and Tennille came out around 1975. They had the big hit during the summer of 75 with "Love Will Keep Us Together". My eldest sister bought the 45 for me and I wore it down in a month's time from too much play, that she shelled out and bought her baby brother the album when she was out shopping with her friends.. LOL!!!
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Yes, that's the show Eman. They were on it several times, I think there are some clips on youtube. Perhaps Captain and Tennille werent on this, I think a group called the Fifth Dimension were on it though, I may be getting mixed up with them.. They had the hit song Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In.
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
John, yes I remember the 5th Dimension on it. I loved them, they were actually considered as an African/American version of the Mama's and the Papa's. However it was said by some that the Mama's and Papa's had more "soul" then the 5th Dimension. Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr (the married couple from the group) had big hits with "I Hope We Get to Love In Time" and their biggest song "You Don't Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show)" back in 1976 after they left the group in 1973. British songwriter Tony MacCauley wrote a big hit for the 5th Dimension called (Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep At All. I also think he wrote all of David Soul's biggest hits like "Don't Give Up On Us" , "Silver Lady" and "Goin In With My Eyes Open'. Hope you forgive my ramblings on about music but I like to share the knowledge.

We all love talking about music Eman--that is why we are here. I always find it so amazing, that even though there are thousands of miles between us, but we have the same taste in music, and so much in common from the past.
i remember seeing the Karen Carpenter clip you mentioned-Im do have quite a few Carpenter dvds. I did think that i had everything -just could not remember Captain & Tenille on one of their shows.
I do not remember 5th dimension singing "Last night I didn't get to sleep", but i do have it recorded by Johnny Mathis, and it is amongst my favourite of his recordings. My fave track from 5th dimension is "Living together, Growing together". I quite liked David Soul when he sang---he was such a big hit over here in Starsky and Hutch--but my favourite was the other guy--completely forgotten his name--but he was also in "Fiddler on the roof"-I just loved that film--oh , I have it now Paul Michael Glaser, that was his name.

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Mariana, LOL Glad to share my knowledge on stuff then. Hey David Soul was my favourite in Starsky and Hutch. I loved his records because they were different from what was the common thing at the time. Speaking of Starsky and Hutch, I also loved the British version called "The Professionals" . Doyle and Brodie were there names I think. One of the guys played Judge John Deed (he was Doyle the curly haired one) but in the show I liked Brodie (Lewis something can't remember the last name) the best.
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Eman, their names were Bodie and Doyle
..........the actor is called Lewis Collins

Thanks Robert, my memory has lapsed since I saw the series oh when I was about 14 years old.
I also remember a anthology type series called "Hammer House of Horror" that used to scare the living daylights outta me.
