I cannot see where to edit my last post--so i will just add, that i really wish that Johnny Mathis had recorded "Overjoyed"---I know he did cover a couple of Stevie's songs.

Thankyou Marian it was super. They seem to get better every time.

It is all getting a bit worrying for these touring bands though.

More 'bums on seat' are needed for sure.

The S.L.O seem to be joining the cruise market. They have a 6 day and a 16 day booked this year.
I believe that the early May 'gig' means that they may meet up with Michele briefly. :D :D

Hi Marian

Can't say I know Overjoyed but I will check it out. of course Johnny sang several Stevie Wonder songs and recorded some too: Lately, You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, If It's Magic, to name a few. He also sang Another Star (from Stevie's "Songs In The Key of Life" album) on the programme called The Mathis Magic in 1981 when he was interviewed by Noel Edmonds, and the performance is viewable on youtube; it's a shame that he didn't record this song though, as it's a great number. Stevie's version is too, thoough the studio recording is too long at something like 9 minutes and just keeps repeating the same refrain; sometimes in music less is more...

We are listening to some Benny Goodman music. :)

There is a BIG BAND SPECIAL programme at 9.30 pm this evening Monday 18th on BBC Radio 2.
It was first broadcast in July, but probably worth a listen if you missed it like we did first time.

I didn't know Johnny Mathis recorded so many Stevie Wonder songs. I would like to hear If It's Magic. Did he ever sing Superwoman? You mentioned I'd Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer, which is usually paired with Superwoman.

Overjoyed is a later Stevie recording. I like it very much, especially the piano.

I disagree that Another Star is too long. I love those long tracks from that era. Back Together Again by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway is around 10 minutes long and the last five just repeat the same loop. I never get bored and sing right along.

Another long and thrilling Stevie song is As. But the lyrics keep changing and it's difficult to sing along. And you didn't mention another lovely ballad from SITKOL, Knocks Me Off My Feet.

I cannot recall JM singing that song "Another Star" on the Mathis Magic" show--even though I have seen it loads of times--and at the moement, I do not even recall the song. He never sang "I'd never dreamed you'd leave in summer", unfortunately as that is a really nice song.

Still working my way through the 4cd sets of British Hit Parade B sides, it's great when singers you like start to sing when you least expect it as there are one or two Matt tracks included.

Original Film Soundtrack from The Film 'First Love' composed and conducted by John Barry. Starring William Katt and Susan Dey from 1977. This is the first official release of Barry's soundtrack by La La Records in the USA. His score eventually only had 10 minutes used in the film and this release is the first time the full score is in the public demain. The score has been lying on Paramount Pictures music department shelves since 1977.
