Robert, although surprised, we did think Dewi really was in America by his comments during the show but towards the closing of the programme i was probably preparing the vegatables for lunch and didn't hear what he said at the end, and just returned to listen to the David Jacob's interview that followed. Have just heard it again on the Listen Again feature. We may have fallen for it though Robert

I may have done too L&H
Marian, the Frances Langford CD was not a let down, in fact it was extraordinary, and very good sound quality, which helps a lot when listening to recordings going back to the 30's and 40's. Frances's version of "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" from "Showboat" is out of this world
Paul, I wish you had let me know earlier about what Dame Vera Lynn had to say about Frances Langford, as I would have listended to it. But I'm too late now
Frances Langford would have been 94 years young tomorrow, April 4th.

Sorry Robert, but I assumed that all forum members (and lovers of good easy listening music) would be listening to the Dame Vera Lynn programme on Radio 2. It was an excellent series.
Since I listened to the second part twice, I recall that Dame Vera stated that she liked to listen to Frances Langford back in the early days of her career. Then people warned her that she needed to continue to sound English, and not American. So she stopped listening to other singers.
It was so interesting in part 3 how she related that the American shows changed the British music shows. Before the American influence, she would sing 20 minutes, then there would be a comedian or other act. But the American shows would be one hour solo performer and she had to prepare a programme of 60 minutes. And that's the way they have remained!
It was great to hear Anne Shelton mentioned and played again on a Radio 2 programme. I will have to search for a CD next time I'm in the UK.
(By the way, I'm still listening to my new Elliott Yamin CD, just hoping that it will get better. I woke up with one of the songs in my head this morning! But some of the songs I've already written off because of the corny rhyming. Not so with The Rare Monro: some of the songs I didn't feel were too great initially, I'm now liking a lot, like Only The Night Wind Knows and I Love You Too.)

Thanks for the FL information Jeff. It's hard to fit everything in these days, when theres the Internet, DVDs, CDs, watching TV (news and sport), listening to missed radio shows online. Not enough time, is there
Not having heard "Where In the World" before, I am truly amazed how wonderful the song is. A typical Matt song in my eyes

Yes life is all go! Yesterday I did my usual light weight-training; had an hours rehearsal; took Margaret for the 'big shop'; went for a 4 mile jog over the local golf course; worked on a proposed 'script' for a possible 'ALTERNATIVE FRANK & DINO SHOW; washed up after dinner; then the emotions of watching my beloved Liverpool on tv. Oh yes and I made the evening coffee too! Thank God I was in the Liverpool Girl Guides all those years ago!!!!!!
I was left shattered after a WI committee morning yesterday---11 ladies in 1 small living room--all talking about something diffferent---Dairy Farmers--the new Swimming Pool--the annual Meal Menu--Tunbridge Wells Borough Council---the changed Bus Timetable--etc, etc, etc.
My head was spinning by the time I got home!!!

Marian and Mariana,
You've made me feel so relaxed! Tunbridge Wells aye! I used to be Vice-Chairman and Announcer at Deal Town Football Club some years ago and visited your area many times! Does your WI ever need an Entertainer? I'm class and not too expensive!!! What a beautiful day - long may it last.

Hi Bill---we occasionally have entertainers at our District Meetings, and I am sure you would go down well. But I know that we are all booked up until the end of next year, and in the process of booking up for 2009. I am not involved in that side of it, but if you have any info to send me I can pass it on. My district is actually called "Goudhurst District"---we are 6 miles from Tunbridge Wells.
We had a friend who moved to Deal--then to Spain-then back again to Walmer--but no idea where !!
And it was freezing here at lunchtime when I took the dogs out!!!
