That sounds really good , John ! Although Blackpool can be a bit bracing at times. I have been there in the middle of summer, and it was like winter !!!

Hi Mariana,
I lived in Walmer for 30 years and had the Butchers Shop (and served the Queen Mum, Joan Regan, Charles Hawtrey etc!) for a number of years! I also founded the original Deal Striders Running Club and as I said was also Vice-Chairman of Deal Town FC! Your WI must be busy with Entertainers? I can be heard at www.geocities.com/thevoiceofbillbennett or seen at www.scottjordan.co.uk click 'live music' then 'tributes rat pack' Thanks for the chat - Blackpool or Neath - here we come for the week-end!

John,
Have you tried those 'Eno' tablets? They clear the wind every time!!

Thanks Bill for your information and links. No we do not have many entertainers---mostly demonstrations, talks etc, but occasionally we have an entertainer---as I say this is usually at the District Meetings, which consists of up to 10 local WI's.

I do not know Deal or Walmer myself.

And the $64,000 question is:

What is a WI?

I will answer for Marian. WI stands for "Womens Institute" an organisation to do with "womeny" things     I think I may have made a new word up there.

Thank you for the answers. We could never have such a group in the politically correct United States. :) And we no longer have womeny and manly activities in the US as everything is now merged.

Are you members of the local MIs, John and Robert?

Back to the listening topic of this thread. Soon I will be listening again to part 3 of the Dame Vera Lynn special on Radio 2. I'm afraid it will be removed soon and I want to listen to it one more time!

Yes, it's still there, Robert. Scroll down to Vera Lynn: Still Our Sweetheart.

Try to listen to it soon. I think it will be removed on Thursday.

Now I'm listening to Sarah Kennedy's programme from Wednesday morning. She just played Feel The Need In Me by the Detroit Emeralds. I love this song. It was a very minor hit in the US, but a huge hit in the UK. Once again the UK got it right in terms of music. Here's another example: the new album by Joss Stone didn't even make the top 10 in the UK. It opened at #2 on the US Top Albums chart. It was playing at a Borders the other day. I had to leave the store as it was so awful!
