Hi Marian

I've never heard of this movie, cannot believe that so many films have passed me by un-noticed.
It's an education, this forum.

We like Anthony Newley but have never seen this movie, and even if it appeared on TV we probably wouldn't watch it, guessing what the main plot is all about i suppose, but there are some good reviews about it.
It appears that Tommy Steele was originally meant for this part. :) .

Well, at the time I was a big fan of Anthony Newley-I must admit, I never knew that Topmmy Steele was lined up for it-although I can imagine that he would be just as right for the part.

I remember it being such a big boost for Anthony Newley, especially with the EP of the songs from the film--including the title track, and a ballad "I've waited so long"--which was actually a really nice song-plus 2 others that I have forgotten just now.

Because it has never [or hardly ever]been on Tv, many people do not know about it, or have forgotten about it.

The story , briefly, is about a Pop star [Anthony Newley], who is called up to join the Army. Hence the title "Idle [Idol] on Parade"

I do remember seeing Anthony Newley in the film..............on the parade ground in his army uniform, including the berret on his head :)..........wasn't the old Dr Who, William Hartnel in the film, probably playing the sargeant, I seem to remember.

Marian, you are so right--many big names in that film--"Idle on Parade"-but they were not all so big then.

I do not remember seeing Susan Hampshire-I guess she may have looked different then.

It was a coincidence seeing Dylis Laye, who just died so recently.

Basically it was a vehicle for Anthony Newley, who at the time was a comparitive newcomer-apart from playing "The Artful Dodger"

Watched a film last night with Shirley Maclaine and Richard Attenborough. The Bliss of Mrs Blossom it was called, what a load of rubbish that was. :x

I think there's a Jack Jones song in that John. I know there's an album from the film and it's on Jack's website.
It's actually listed as The Briss of Mrs Brossom as a gentleman from Japan runs the website

You are absolutely correct Marian. I forgot to mention this before, when the titles cam on at the end of the film (and not before time either!) I thought, I am sure that's Jack Jones. And it was. :D
Best part of the film actually.
