Wishing for better weather

Post by Gray » Wed Oct 18, 2006 12:47 pm

Hi All

I'm sat at work in my dinner hour listening to 'Memphis in June' on my i-pod.
How wonderful this song is, so evocative.
Isn't Matt Monro's voice divine on this track? So relaxed and effortless. 8)

And yes, how I wish it was June, it's miserable weather outside!

The weather has been cool, cloudy, and rainy on the east coast US also.

Gray: I like Memphis In June, but as I've mentioned many times I only listen to it in June. What I've been really enjoying the past few days is "You're Gonna Hear From Me" from one of my favourite albums This Is The Life. It seems pretty appropriate because the sun has certainly "moved over" around here. Like everything else, Matt Monro's vocals are unbelievably wonderful, but I think the orchestra is a bit over the top at the end ... I could do with fewer timpanis. But the brass section is incredible. Such an unusual arrangement which starts out fairly quiet and then goes huge at the end! It also has the 1960s "Kaempfert" sound which I love so much.

Marians and everyone: Don't forget Fans Reunited. That is certainly a major upcoming event, as well as the release of the new Matt Monro Love Songs collection in time for Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. So there's plenty to look forward to until the warm weather of June.

Hi everyone

Thanks for replying.
Doesn't sunshine make a huge difference to things?
Marian, glad you had sunny rays fall on you and yours today.

Paul, yes, I recall you have said you play certain songs at certain times of the year.
Yes, I like You're Gonna Hear From Me also, wasn't it from the film Inside Daisy Clover? Or am I getting muddled?

I have a consolation of Matt's CD's in the car, so it is wonderful music

in my ears, makes the journey worthwhile. :)

Cannot believe that nobody has wished for better weather since March 2007!
I was so hoping to go to London today to see the Lord Mayor's Show, but it's pouring with rain and blowing a gale.
Fingers crossed for next Saturday since a group of us amateur 'togs are supposed to be meeting up for a forest walk (Waltham) and then into a studio to learn how to photograph food

We've had sqaully showers all morning here south of Reading Chris, but it's brightening up now, I can even see a glimpse of sun, so hopefully the day will improve.

It's a beautiful morning in York, the sun is rising and I'm looking out out at blue sky.
Showery forecast ahead though. :(
My eldest daughter Holly is a 'Rainbow', pre-curser to Girl Guides, and she has a Remembrance Day Parade this morning.
Hope it stays dry for us!

I well remember our daughter Jackie carrying the flag one year at a Brownie parade.
Have a lovely day Holly, and may the sun shine on all the Remembrance Parades across the country today.

The weather here in Blackpool is very mixed this morning, it isn't as windy as last night and there is a bit of sunshine and also a bit of rain. Hope it does keep fine for all the Rememberance Parades.
