Christmas Polling Booth

Post by paul jh » Mon Dec 10, 2007 4:34 pm

I enjoyed taking the Christmas Poll, but have questions about the vegetables. What are broad bean and swede? They don't sound appetising! And I never heard of "festooning around the house".

I couldn't understand why Mary's Boy Child was a choice for most irritating Christmas hit. I love it by both Matt Monro and Boney M. I would have voted for it as best hit! I don't think I've ever heard the original Harry Belafonte version.

I have often wondered what "mulled wine" is. Silly, I know, but true. As for annoying Xmas songs, believe it or not it is Johnny Mathis's "When A Child Is Born" because of the corny spoken part in the middle. I regret that he is identified with this song. On the other hand, I have always liked Mud's "It'll be Lonely This Christmas".

I believe Mulled wine is red wine that has been heated and spices added Jon.
How about Jonah Lewie's "Send the Cavalry" for most annoying Christmas song, but secretly I quite like it myself.

"A Christmas Portrait" by The Carpenters is one of my favourite Christmas cds ever---even though I have about a dozen Christmas cds by Johnny Mathis [which I also love]

I also love the "Carpenters - Christmas Portrait" album Marian, the "Old Fashioned Christmas" album is great too though, I love their version of "Do You Hear What I Hear". 8)
"Mama Liked The Roses" by Elvis is a favourite as well, and "CHRISTMAS" by Jim Reeves.
