Stop Press!! - April Fool

Hi guys,
A bit of a stop press here, too late to be included in Michele’s news section. I had word only last week that a pair of acetates has been found that are marked as ‘Top Pop Club no. 19’ and 'Top Pop Club – Hits of Elvis Presley' dating it appears from somewhere around October / November 1959.
As you probably know, Matt recorded three songs for LP no. 16 in that series from July 1959. These were monthly issued LPs of cover versions of other people’s hits with singers often having to imitate the style of the original. Previously we have only known about discs up to no.17 and of these Matt only appears on one. That is until now. It had been assumed that around the time of issue 18 the company had ceased to exist, but these new acetates seem to prove otherwise, although no production copies have been found , they must have struggled on long enough for two more 10†LP’s to be recorded.
I couldn’t take the collectors word for it so he e-mailed me dubs of the acetates this evening, which I also sent to Michele in Australia and it is most definitely Matt!
There are no less than FOUR previously unknown recordings by Matt on volume 19 and ALL of on the Elvis Tribute.
On the Elvis disc Matt sings ‘A Big Hunk O’ Love’, I Got Stung, Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog, That’s Alright Mama, All Shook Up, Teddy Bear, Jailhouse rock, Old Shep and Mean Woman Blues.
On Volume 19 he sings , Living Doll (Cliff Richard), Tallahassee Lassie (Freddie Cannon) , April Love (Pat Boone) & Loves Made a Fool Of You (The Crickets).
It’s early days yet, but if these clean up OK a possible new album ‘Matt Monro sings the Hits of the rocking 50’s’ Might be coming soon.
