Where is everyone?!

Hi All,

The forum is very quiet at the moment isn't it?
Even Lena and Harry aren't here this week. They could have decided to take a much deserved holiday - maybe they are sunning themselves somewhere nice like.......Southend on Sea, [S.O.S!]

Robert and Marian could have gone along too - well Lena and Harry will probably need someone to carry all those heavy suitcases won't they now?!

Of course there might be another reason why the forum is so quiet right now - maybe everyone has started their Christmas shopping early so that they can beat the rush later on. At this rate we shall have everything bought, wrapped and put away by 1st November!

Does anyone know any jokes or funny stories - if so, let's hear them and then we can write them down and send the jokes on to Brucie as he does need a few new jokes/stories now doesn't he?! :D

Hi Hilary---I cannot speak for the others, but I have been around checking the forum once a day. I just have not got a lot to say at the moment !! I think it has dawned on everyone that summer looks as though it is over, and we are heading towards winter!!!!

I cannot even think of a funny story

Hi Hilary and Marian, and everyone else

I too have been viewing the forum but no sign of anyone. As Marian says, maybe it's the onset of winter that's keeping everyone quiet. I guess Lena and Harry, Robert et al must be away. But I can't think of any funny stories either!

It's definitely the onset of winter and those dark winter nights that are now upon us. I think it makes people a bit depressed at this time of the year. I too have been visiting the site over the past couple of days, but not much to write about at the moment. Thanks for your enlivening posts Hilary 8)

It certainly is great to be alive Mark, regardless of the weather, and Hilary, no unfortunately we weren't vacating in Sunny Southend- on- Sea.
Have been dealing with a road incident this weekend that didn't even occur on Friday the 13th, but the outcome, in short is that Harry's O.k.
We have some fun memories of Southend-on-Sea though Hilary.
The local pubs would have their Annual coach outing and invarioubly the destination would be Southend, being the nearest Seaside town from London and the most famous spot for "a day out".
It was regulation for the coach to pull up at the "Halfway House " ( for liquid refreshments) even though the coach was already laden with crates of beers and spirits from the usual whip round. :P
The day would be either spent on the beach or the pubs, (not so much beach) Ross's or Mr Whippy ice creams, candy floss, cockles and whelks, Kiss Me Quick hats, cowboy hats, and back to the coach where on one occasion two of the travellers who'd had one two many were still asleep on the back seat and hadn't even seen Southend, and woke up back home.
On the subject of Christmas shopping, we have Easter eggs in our local shop

We did miss you so much Lena and Harry. Sorry to hear you were involved in a road incident, but very pleased Harry's okay.
It was just that everyone seemed to disappear all at the same time, as there was hardly anyone on the forum for a couple of days, and even the ones like us that did write something had nothing to say!
Then we started looking for reasons why and where everyone had gone, so we blamed the darker days and the time of year generally.
Anyway, so pleased to have you back on form, and back on the forum.   Now we can get back to happy smiley faces again.
Your Southend story really cheered me up anyway. They must have been great days. We used to go to Barry Island with the Sunday school, just one day of the year, but it really was always a great day.

Hi Marian, Lena and Harry---Good to have you back L & H.

Hearing about Barry Island reminds me of when I was a child, we went there occasionally for our annual holiday. We used to take an overnight coach--but I always suffered badly with travel sickness--so it was not much fun---especially having to get out of the coach in the middle of the night

Marian, thank you for your kind words. much appreciated.
My friend and I (Lena ) often laugh as we recall a story of while visiting Pontypridd in South Wales, we booked for a mystery bus tour. After a long drive which seemed like an eternity, we eventually stopped at a small run down public house , which we entered to the strains of an elderly lady singing and accompanied by a man playing a squeeze box.
We weren't aware that the driver was lost, until the next day we learned that he was sacked, we were supposed to have gone to Barry Island.

Hi All,

Lena and Harry - It's good to have you both back again, we all missed you here. Harry - I'm glad that you are on the mend and hopefully you will be running around again! Well maybe not running, but walking and back to normal soon. :D

I have a little joke that I would like to share with everyone!
Yes it is clean so anyone can read this one!

2 men were staying in a hotel for the week.
They were very fond of a glass or two, [probably two I should think] of Sherry and would have a drink in their room each night.

They returned home one evening and noticed that the sherry bottle was half empty. Each man blamed the other but both said that they hadn't had a glass without telling the other.

This happened again the next night so they decided that if it wasn't either of them then it must be the landlady that had a drink problem!
So what they decided to do the next night was leave the bottle out again and see just what happened. Before they did this, they filled the bottle up in the most unfriendly way! and left it on the table.

Well, they returned in the evening and the bottle was almost empty again.
The two men repeated the process once again - filling up the bottle with "you know what" and left it on the table.

When they returned in the evening the bottle was once again, almost empty. The two men couldn't understand why the landlady was drinking "you know what" and came to the conclusion that that she must have a very serious drink problem. They said that they would tackle her about this later when they were in the dining room.

This they did. The landlady said that she was very sorry about this but she had run out of sherry and needed some to put in the trifle for dinner. She went on to say that she saw the bottle in their room and helped herself to it! Yes, the guys had been drinking, "you know what" for two days and didn't know this!

Sorry if you are a fan of sherry trifle - I was too once but not anymore.
I shall now be eating ice cream and I will give the trifle a miss in future! :D
