hi everyone, As i'm new to the site, you may have spoken about this before, we really miss Ed on sundays. Does anyone have any other ideas on what we can listen to in the same genre. sundays are not the same, so any radio shows that you listen to would be great!
Jason. :?

There is an Ed Stewart "topic" somewhere on this website jason. We all agree with you regarding the great "varied" music Ed used to play on Sundays. What a mistake by Radio 2 to get rid of such a popular show, which is IRREPLACEABLE

Jason, we did miss Ed Stewart when he left his Radio 2 show on Sundays.
Not sure if this is correct but I heard somewhere that he was on Classic Gold Radio over the Christmas and on New Years Day.
Anyway Radio 2 Sunday schedule is due for changes once again. Pick of the Pops is going to be on earlier and Russell Davies is changing his slot from 1.30 in the afternoon to the evening at 9.o'clock and David Jacobs programme is to remain at the same time so all is not lost.

I liked Russell Davies on in the afternoon. I wish Radio 2 would stop messing around with the schedules, taking off ALL the best shows

I must admit I haven't listened to Radio 2 for a number of years, mainly because I never have the radio on, but it was always my favourite station, and I think if I remember correctly Ed Stewart used to be on in the afternoons from about 3.30pm and I always liked his shows. I am talking about 12 years ago before I moved here to Blackpool. Saying that I liked Terry Wogan and Jimmy Young etc as well, they all played my kind of music. 8) :) :D

Right John. We had tickets bought for us with my Sister and Brother-In-Law as part of a Christmas gift for the "Magnificent Music Hall " at the New Wimbledon Theatre. Some of the performers taking part from "The Good Old Days" shows.
With these productions you never know who'se taking part and what a nice surprise when the chaiman introduced Ed Stewart known as (Stewpot from Crackerjack) Ed told a few gags and in the second half sang "My Old Dutch" with Jan Hunt, (the lady who produces these shows.) Ed was displaying a hidden talent. He's a very good singer
A wonderful show Bernie Clifton was hilarious. Had the entire audience rocking with laughter.
Another nice surprise the wonderful Marylin Hill Smith from the" Friday Night Is Music Night" programmes singing songs from "The Merry Widow" and Ivor Novello's "The Dancing Years" and included We'll Gather Lilacs. A lady comedienne Lizzie Wiggins, who was a true professional and so funny.
They introduced the lovely June Whitfield who was in the audience.
After the show the cast were outside to meet everyone. This was always the occurence from the cast in those bygone days.
I spoke to Ed who had interviewed Al Martino on his show live from his home in California. He knew that AL was coming over again.
Didn't get chance to ask any other questions, so many people wanting to talk to them all.
We spoke to Jan Hunt and we agreed that we need shows like this back on television Oh !!! if only

Glad you enjoyed the show, Lena and Harry. It must be nice to go to something like this for a change and good to meet a celebrity or two at the same time. :P

And Old Spice Marian.
Yes John, these kind of shows are similar to those that you often get in seaside resorts, etc where the artists give there all and are not too far above themselves to meet the people who've come to see them, and most impotantly not a CD in sight

Lena & Harry

How wonderful for you! Sounds like a terrific show, I used to love Bernie Clifton as a kid, I thought he was hysterical...glad to hear he still has got what it takes to make people chuckle. :)

Gray, all the artists taking part were excellent but we thought that Bernie Clifton was the star of the show.
He performed his usual act riding Oswald the Ostrich, but was involving people in the audience with other tricks that kept going wrong. He gave one woman a large gong to bang While he was singing some of his made up songs and she was banging it at the wrong time.
While another act was on he walked across the back of the stage in nothing else but a very short tartan mini skirt and a tam o' shanter on his head and the highest pair of platform shoes with high heels. Someone from the audience asked him to do a handstand. We were dreading that     A great performer from the old school

Sounds like a really good variety show Lena and Harry. Ed Stewart has been around many years as I remember him opening our hospital fete when our daughter was a baby. She is 38 now.. (she'll love me for telling you that!) Bruce Forsythe is always campaigning for the return of good old type variety shows. We could certainly do with them.

Hi Marian, Ed Stewart has a great personality even from his days on Radio Caroline.
We do need good entertainment programmes back, but we also remember when Bruce Forsythe, a few years ago made a return with "Sunday Night At The London Palladium"-- can't remember how many of these return shows there were, but it didn't appear to get off the ground again.
