Day Off

Post by paul and sue » Sat Nov 18, 2006 10:26 am

Finally managed to give the camera to Michele and she has uploaded all the photos that I have taken along the way. They are now in the "Scrapbook".
Look out for the one of that fabulous carpet from the Broadway Theatre. Unfortunately the ones that I took of the Plaza Theatre in Stockport were too dark to print which is a great shame as it is only one of a small group of Grade 11 listed cinemas in Britain. It is recognised as an outstanding surviving example of Art Deco but the staff were telling me that it needs constant maintenance. It also retains its original organ which has survived intact and in full working order. It was built by The John Compton Organ Co and was one of the first to be built with decorative glass panels, illuminated in various colours. The effect is amazing. The theatre have it positioned on a lift so that it can rise out of the floor and the organ pipes and sound effects fill the whole cinema with amazing sound. History lesson over. We had miserable journey getting back, it just rained the whole way, was dark and damp but this morning the sun is out, what a difference a day makes.

Doing a change over of stock today and a thousand chores before we set off later for Newport. Not long until the Club Meet at the Beck, I am really looking forward to Monday, it should be a great day.

Catch you all later
Bye for now
Paul

Lots more interesting pictures Paul. Thank you!
Can't say I'm too enthused with the carpet like you are though, but I suppose the piano pattern is a nice touch.

Hope you all enjoy Reading tomorrow, my home town. Missing out though as going to the get-together at the Beck on Monday.

Marian.

Just had a look at the photos. Matt jnr is looking more and more like his Dad, especially in a couple of the pictures. I love the "Broadway" sign above the theatre entrance too, reminds me of the old B&W movies I love, especially Ellie  But I didn't know Leeds had been moved to the seaside
