Fans Reunited

Post by Administrator » Fri May 18, 2007 10:06 am

It’s official – The second ‘Fans Reunited’ event will take place on Tuesday 2nd October 2007, which also coincides with the first night of my brother’s new tour “Matt Monro – His Life, His Music”

The venue, will once again be, The Beck Theatre, Grange Road, Hayes, Middlesex, UB3 2UE and the event will begin at 3.00pm
and run until 6.00pm. This year we will have full use over the whole Foyer thus giving us much more room. For those attending the concert that night we will stay within the theatre until the doors open.

The theatre is well situated and has 200 free car parking spaces outside; it also has good access for the disabled. There is a bar and bistro in the foyer from which interval drinks or tea and coffee can be ordered.

The afternoon kicks off with a welcome drink and later a fork buffet, which will also cater to vegetarians, and those that were there last year can certainly vouch for its success. There will be a question and answer session, autographs and photographs if you wish so don't forget your cameras. We will also have a Swap Meet area so if you have any rare items you would like to trade or sell please bring them along. Even if you don’t want to trade you can still bring any items that you wish to show off. This year we thought we would include a music quiz to bump up the fun.

Steve Woof, my partner in crime at EMI is donating something equally exciting this year, which will be our star prize in the raffle. It is a one off and something I think all of you would like to own.

The cost of this private limited event will be £25.00 per person It will include food, soft drinks and a ‘goodie bag’. Wine can be ordered at an extra cost.
The ticket price for members of “Friends of Matt Monro” is £20.00 each and you will need to quote your membership number when applying.

Payment is by cheque made out to M.MONRO. Please send to the address below and make sure to supply full names of all people in your party, your postal address, phone number and e-mail if possible.

For any overseas guests you are welcome to pay by Paypal www.paypal.co.uk The e-mail address attached to the account is michele@mattmonro.com

Please remember to bring your ticket with you; you will not gain access without it because of theatre security.

If you wish to attend the concert as well, tickets would have to be booked separately although they are not officially on sale as yet. The direct booking line is 020 8561 8371 and one can get updates of ticket release on www.getlive.co.uk/hayes

One of our members has recommended a hotel if anyone needs accommodation and apparently it is fairly close to the venue: Hayes Premier Travel Inn - 0870 197 7132 or 020 8561 1158. They have quoted me £68.00 per room

I leave for America at the end of July and will not return to England until a few weeks before the event. Because of this the
final date for ticket sales will be 20th July. Tickets are still limited so it will be done by first come first served. I am sorry but because of the limited numbers all monies received are non-refundable.

Any updates will be posted on the Forum at www.mattmonro.com

We look forward to seeing you there; don’t forget your cameras

Best wishes
Michele, Mickie, Matt Jnr and Max

It all sounds great--even if it is only half as good as last year, it will be brilliant.

Have just booked my room at the Premier Inn---so I'm all ready to go !!

Looking forward to seeing my special friends from last year again---and hopefully some new ones this year !

As soon as I read Michele's message and Marian's reply, I made my reservation online for a room and full English breakfast :) at the Premier Travel Inn. So I may be the second! Usually I procrastinate, but I want to make sure I have a room. Now I need to check into flights and decide where my pre-Fans Reunited II holiday will be. Currently, Worcester/Malvern, London, Bath, Bristol, Birmingham, the Cotwolds, Lincoln, and the New Forest are in contention.

The event sounds wonderful. :) And we are getting an extra hour this year! More time for listening to music, socialising, and eating! And this time I'll be curious about those outside chats of Harry, Helen, and Angela. I may join one of them!

I read Michele's message several times, and there was no mention of playing the recently discovered Matt Monro recordings with Billy May. :? And I do hope she will play that incredible video of Matt Monro with Tony Bennett singing Lullaby of Broadway that Gray has requested again and we ALL want to see again! And I never got to see the extra special This Is Your Life book last year. I don't know if Michele will want to bring that out of the house again.

This is my 999th posting. I wanted my 999th and 1000th to be all about Matt Monro. I haven't had a chance to post too much recently. I have been really busy at work. So I will mention something related to a previous posting about Russell Davies playing Blue Moon by Matt Monro on Sunday night a few weeks ago. I have never liked that song: especially the doo-wop versions and the version by Mel Torme---sorry but they were dreadful. But now that I've heard Matt Monro's recording, I can now tolerate and even love the song. His improvisation of the melody is brilliant. It add so much to the song. I have now listened to all of disc 2 of The Rare Monro. Perhaps I should simply say I now have a new favourite jazz singer: Matt Monro. I don't think I've heard jazz singing equal or better than what I heard on The Rare Monro and The Heart Of The Man. His ability to improvise and phrase in a jazz setting is remarkable. I love both discs 1 and 2 of The Rare Monro. It's now been number 1 on my album chart for 5 straight months and will lbe in May too. Just how long will it top my album chart?!

I will start cramming on music trivia this weekend, so I can win some music quizzes at Fans Reunited! :D

Everyone on here knows it was taken in the 80's. Maybe you missed that fact Edgar, when you were away on one of your "very frequent" holidays

Just got back from holiday and been busy with work so haven't posted much recently. However I'm hoping to be at Fans Reunited this year so am looking forward to that. Paul, I can vouch for Worcester/Malvern area as a worthwhile holiday area, though the weather in October may not be all you would wish for; I went in October '05 and it rained cats and dogs every day.

I have recently also got onto Disc 2 of The Rare Monro but it hasn't clicked with me yet as much as Disc 1; the live performances I am finding the least appealing for some reason, but maybe that will change.
