Re: Special Days In May
My Mums birthday today she is 89.We are going to Woodhall Spa for lunch.
It is a pretty little spa town home of 617 squadron the Dambusters.
The hotel 'The Petwood' was the headquarters of 617 and their is lots of memorabilia there.
We hope to walk through the lovely wooded area(it's clouded up here!) and have lunch in the 'teahouse in the woods'.There is also an original wooden cinema called the 'Kinema in The Woods' where they still have an organ coming up before the performance. They also have loads of old photos of film stars in the foyer-just her cup of tea

Hope your mum has a lovely day Sandra. The weather certainly couldn't be better! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves too.
Peter was interested in your words about Woodhall Spa, as being a boy at the time of the war he is interested in all things war related. He has read many books on the Dambusters.

Re: Special Days In May
Thankyou every one it was a lovely day.
The teahouse was closed (Mondays!) so tell Peter Marian that we had lunch in the Petwood Hotel where their is a special room dedicated to 617.
It is the actual room that Guy Gibson and officers etc used to frequent.
Their is loads of memorabilia in the room including the bar of course, pictures,
maps, plans, photos of everyone(can only remember Shannon,Young and Hopgood) .He would have loved it

Re: Special Days In May
Happy 89th Birthday to your mum for today Sandra, and so pleased to hear that you all enjoyed the day, and your mum will have a lovely Birthday to remember.
It's the kind of day that we enjoy too, specially looking at the memorabillia.
Did you have your mum's favourite Frank's ... "Come Fly with me " playing in the car. ?

Re: Special Days In May
Thanks Lena and Harry.Yes you are right 'Come Fly With Me' was many of the
Sinatra songs we were singing along too.
John kept making us laugh as at the end of every swing number he kept saying
'pack a small bag' as Sinatra does at the end of that song

Re: Special Days In May
At forty people still may call you "Young Man", but at fifty they call you "sir". I'm 50 this year and have achieved great things in those ten years, like back to back degrees.I had no notion in doing anything like that at 18yrs of age!! You live in a great part of the world, I'm an adopted Yorkshireman...Lived in Harrogate for 20yrs or more and educated in Bradford. Great people have come from York; Dr Francis Jackson, John Barry and Dame Judi Dench. I have associations with all three. Don't feel down, be positive and have fun!! This photo was taken in York in October last year.
