Remembering Dusty on this day, we lost a great talent in 1999.

We certainly did lose a great talent Karl, those were the days when we could follow the lyrics and the melody. Mind you some of them today would make good Town Criers.

L&H I heard a dreadful record in HMV a few days ago, there were no lyrics just a repetive sound followed by another noise at the end of every beat and it got nowhere. I said to the female assistant on the floor I'd heard some dreadful sounds but that took the biscuit - she told me she liked it.
Why was not surprised? I don't mean to sound like an old fogey but how cant they possibly like that or pay money to listen to it?
Give me Matt, Dusty, Jackie, Motown, Madeline and Mr Jones etc any day of the week!

Yes makes you wonder Karl. It's something like that in Asda supermarket. Couldn't tell you who or what the songs are they play, plus their chronic sound system don't help, and even harder trying to understand what they are announcing in between this rubbish.
It could be an urgent call telling us there's a live bomb at the fish counter and to evacuate the (plaice )

L & H you make me laugh evacuate the plaice!!!
However I do agree about the announcements on the PA system, they talk too fast and too close to the mike and it comes out as rushed and muffled, there is a knack in making such announcements.
It was the same when I worked in M&S certain staff were very clear and precise and others well they sounded like they were running for a bus!!!!!
Was it Sheila Hancock who did a very funny sketch years ago about making annoucementn in a railway station, she took a large bite of a roll and proceeded to talk in muffled tones, swallowed what she was eating and said in a very clear voice "IS CANCELLEDl"

I can't say I remember that sketch Karl,

but stations tannoys are not all they should be and I wouldn't be surprised if someone who'se a bit Mutton and Geoff have stepped on to the wrong train.

Karl, that record you heard sounds fascinating, I wonder what it could be? Though I agree some of the singers now ugh. Please sing the melody straight, no one wants to hear you moaning like a farm animal in pain or a shrieking banshee as it's too early for Halloween.
