special days in October
On the 19th it will be my birthday, the first on my own since my soulmate Len died. On a happier note on the 17th it will be our twin grandchildren's nineteenth birthday, the both started at Universities last moth, so seems very quiet at their home. Kate is at Roehampton and Daniel at Portsmouth. Happy birthday to all October birthdays.
Re: special days in October
Today is our son Michael's birthday. I'm sure he will have a celebratory day! After work of course

Thank you Lena, Harry and John, I'm sure he will have a good time. He is DJing at a gig tonight and his brother has gone to London to join him for the weekend. I guess they will be having fun.

Re: special days in October
Today would have been my Mother's 102nd Birthday.
I think about her every day, but all the more ... "On Days Like These"

I have a friend Kathleen who will be 100 on the 17th, but special wishes and no doubt many fond memories today to Lena on her mum's 102nd birthday.

Although I'm a bit late Lena, thinking of you on your mothers birthday yesterday.
Tomorrow, 15th October it is 12 months since my Aunt Edith passed away. It has gone so quickly.
Happy 100th birthday for your friend Kathleen on Saturday, Marian.

Thinking of you tomorrow John on Aunt Edith's anniversary.
I got Kathleen's birthday wrong, it's actually tomorrow too, her party is on Saturday. You would think after 100 years I could get it right, but then I wasn't around for a few of them!
Thank you for your kind words anyway John.
Marian.

Freda - best wishes for your birthday on the 19th, a poignant day for day for you from what you say. Good luck for your grand children too, I'm sure they will have a good time celebrating at their respective uni's!
Lena & John - thinking of you as you remember those who were dear to you.
Marian - best wishes to your friend Kathleen on her very big day! Hopefully the post dispute won't delay a letter from HM!

Re: special days in October
Kathleen is a very special lady, she has spent her life dedicated to others. During the war she was married to a vicar in central London, St Martin in the Fields, and the whole time she was helping those in need, taking in and giving food and shelter to the homeless.
She then became interested in different political views, and has always kept up to date with current affairs. Her interest continued as her family grew and they moved out to the country to run a parish near to where I now live.
She then cared for her husband and one of her children, who both sadly died of cancer.
I got to know her in her later years when we used to walk our dogs together in the woods collecting wood for her fire.
She would chat on most every topical subject, wrote regularly for the parish magazine, and did the Times crossword every day, as I believe she still does.
She now lives with her daughter in South Wales but is still active and 'with it', surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I know she will be enjoying her special birthday.

Kathleen certainly sounds an amazing lady---I truly believe that many "ordinary" people have more interesting tales to tell, than these so called "celebrities" , writing their memoirs in their 20's!!
It is a shame that in most cases, we never get to hear about people like Kathleen. Well, at least we on this forum have.

Thank you Marian, John, and Gray for your thoughts of my Mother,
John, how this year has flown since your beloved Aunt Edith passed away. A sad day for you, but many happy memories to recall no doubt.
Marian, Kathleen sounds an amazing and very caring person.
Hope she enjoys her special day.

Many thanks Lena and Harry. I'm sure she will. Thanks for all the other kind words from the rest too.
I can picture her now just a year or two back wearing her apron with "WILD THING" across the front! How I wish I'd taken a photo.
