Duets

Although EMI turned the project down it is now being considered by another record company but what would you like to hear on this follow up album?

Duets

Matt Jnr has now submitted two tracks to EMI. They both benefit from new arrangements by Colin Keyes. Now all we have to do is wait and see if we get the go ahead.

Duets album shelved

Post by Michele Monro » Sun Oct 19, 2008 1:56 pm

With the current economic climate EMI has decided not to go ahead with this project at this time. I do hope that when things even out they will reconsider the project as I know from talking to so many of you that this is something you were hoping for.

Oh that is a shame--ever since I first heard the duet album with Matt, and Matt Jnr, when it was first released, I was always hoping for another one .

Duet with Nat

No I'm afraid Matt never did duet with Nat King Cole - they only met the one time and he died shortly after.

I was just wondering how many other singers Matt did actually duet with?
Would there be enough for an album?

Matt & Friends

Post by Michele Monro » Tue Oct 21, 2008 11:51 am

I have mentioned that next year around September, we are bringing out 'Matt and Friends', which is an album of duets with other people. At this time I do not want to divulge the names of the artists up for consideration. I have a lot of work to do on this project involving hours of listening to all the possible tracks that we could use and once I narrow the field done somewhat I will update everyone.

Matt Jnr's Duets Album I don't know about, Matt Snr's Duets album is now at the back of a long queue other projects have taken it over - to be honest it hasn't been researched enough yet - and there may be dreadful rights issues to overcome too so don't get you hopes up for a release any time soon.

Thats a shame as duets are quite big at the minute, thinking of Elvis's xmas duets last year, and Tony Bennetts album too.

I have quite a few duets albums--Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis--at one time there was a real thing about duets--did anyone ever hear Barry Manilow sing "The last Duet" [with Lilly Tomlin , where they included a load of duets from around that time---"Reunited" "You dont bring me flowers" etc etc etc-I love listening to duets--and often wondered if there was enough milage to do a quiz on "My favourite duets"---and I think I might start it now !!

Yes, But these are newly created duets - Elvis from Multitracks and Tony is of course still with us so did them for real. This would be an expensive exercise in Matt's case as studio time is expensive and you have to find the right singers to do it. Then there is the thorny problem of lack of multitracks (See my posting in "The Greatest" section on this).
