No, Marian, I missed Fern Britton's 'wallowing elm'
impression of Mrs Rees;
was she laughing at Philip or the prospect of her end of term
Good Morning release?

We missed Fern's laughter too. I expect she'll be up as usual tomorrow morning but this time laughing all the way to the bank.

Although I don't watch "This Morning" all that much I really like Fern Britton. She is always so cheerful and full of fun. :D

Fern is the daughter of actor Tony Britton :)

Here are a few lines of light relief for folk who live
under the lash of the ever-looming deadline ...

ILLUSIONS

So another month ends
and brute deadlines are met,
'all correct' is the cry.
Burdens like balsa borne,
brows unbeaded by sweat,
not a cloud in our sky:
except for the sounder of swine
that is flying by ...

THE WASP IN THE GLASS

Like a landlord intolerant of a truculent drunk,
I chucked the gatecrasher onto the sunlit patio.
Typical of a binge drinker (the ultimate party pooper),
he lay there like a stupified football-jersey-wearing lager lout,
then staggered on jelly legs and began frantically flexing
his antennae as he dried out under the warm sun.
Startingly, he suddenly soared away none the worse
for his intrusive sousing, perhaps doubly relieved
at not having to explain away his naughty skive
like a bee at the mercy of a haughty queen waiting at the hive.

AUTUMNAL TENNIS

Not for me the outdoor pastime
prone to harsh weathers,
to wind, rain and even snow;
now one prefers
its cosier table cousin
and the pavilion's "join us" glow ...

I liked your 'wasp' poem Keith. :D I'm glad he recovered!
Do wasps live in a hive though? I always thought they lived in a nest in my roof!! Well, they did until they were evacuated last summer.

But "nest" would not rhyme with "Skive"--perhaps that's why Keith allowed himself some poetic license...

I will take the forward step of re-writing a couple of lines on Keith's behalf then. I hope he doesn't mind  Forgive me Keith.

Football returns, centre stage, for a new season of sporting
dramas. Some performances resemble Shakespearean tragedies
depicting ballet beauty in tandem with gutter morality.

SPORTSMANSHIP

The lane becomes a stream of air
whereon a champion athlete glides;
a nag will suddenly grow wings
when on it an equestrian rides ...
The stick seems by unseen string tied
to the teasing ball the master guides.

He makes the venue his domain
and rules with economic grace;
measured might hiding killer touch,
he confounds time and conjures space,
yet seldom will let slip the mask
of concentration that's his face.

A man becomes the champion
by never stooping low to cheat;
the champion becomes a man
when he is gracious in defeat.

A FRAGRANT NOSEGAY
(presented by Ed, from Orlando)

A f--t is agreeable,
it brings flatulence-ease,
it warms beds in winter
and suffocates fleas.

A f--t can be quiet,
a f--t can be loud,
some leave a hanging,
malodorous cloud.

A f--t can be short,
a f--t can be long,
some have even been known
to resemble a song.

A f--t can create
a most curious medley,
a f--t can be harmless,
or silent but deadly.

A f--t might not smell,
while others are vile,
a f--t may pass quickly
or linger awhile ...

a f--t can occur
in a number of places
and leave everyone
pulling peculiar faces.

From wide-expanse prairie
to small elevator,
a f--t will find all of us
sooner or later.

That f--ts are all bad
is quite simply not true,
we must never forget -
benign old f--ts like you.

Hi Robert.

WRIGGLE ROOM

We worried that indecorous winds would blow
on the website of fragrant Michele Monro,
so in 'the end' the route we chose was tact
and used, like Matt, a less coarse word in 'fact'.

NOSTALGIA

An Evening With glows black and white
from star-bright sixty-seven,
when Matt, Kenny et al created
a night of music heaven.
Rolling back time we are sated
in shuffle-induced schmaltz,
when Matt opens with quickstep,
warm foxtrot and heartfelt waltz.
