Abbey Road Studio

Hello,Richard! I was wondering about the Abbey Road Studio and if it has been purchased and is the plan still to preserve it for the Nation? Seems that no one could actually answer that question and Marian suggested that I ask you. In July 2000 I visisted London for the first time. I will never forget walking up the steps and through the front door to the EMI studio at Abbey Road. I, of course, never got beyond that long reception desk but simply had to do it being that I had been a Beatles fan for over three decades. Thanks : )

Hi Lana,

I'm not an authority on the subject i'm afraid, however as far as I am aware Abbey Road is still part of the EMI Group. The EMI Group its self is currently owned by Citi Group - the bank who reposessed it from it's previous owners last year.

I believe that EMI is currently up for sale and at present Abbey Road is part of that deal. The possible sale of Abbey Road separately last year was part of the negotiations to stop reposession of the company and did not actually take place.
