MATT'S ALBUM ON CD

Post by karl » Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:11 pm

Richard I have just placed a bid for two vinyl albums by Matt, I Have Dreamed & We're Gonna Change The World.

Is there any chance that Matt's albums which have not yet had a cd release may be released in the near future?

I certainly hope so, in the past we've had Dusty's & Petula's entire back catalogue released on cd so why not Matt's?

Whilst we would love to release all of Matt's albums on CD, we are in the hands of EMI.

They have been fabulous in what they have let us do in the past few years, but we can't flood the market either

As it stands only three english language albums have never been issued on CD however only two contain tracks not released elsewhere - plus an oddity from the US

Were Gonna Change the World - All tracks have been released on CD. However the US version called Close To You contains one track (Why Can't I Touch You) that still remains unreleased on CD - Mainly because it's an awful song!

The Long and Winding Road and If I Never Sing Another Song are the other two albums - more than half of each have been issued on compilatons - two of thes otherwise unavailable tracks are included on the disc with the new Bookazine.

It has always been the estate's intention to issue every EMI/Capitol recording on CD and we will eventually get there but it all takes time. So far I think 99% has been issued in one way or another, only a handful have yet to see digital release.

By the way, the "I Have Dreamed" album has been issued on CD before on Matt Monro Sings issued by EMI in 1991 but now alas deleted.

Richard thanks for that, 'Matt Monro Sings' i's a 2 CD set and I see in my collection that I have that, it just confuses me when they change the album title as although I have always liked Matt I was not 100% familiar with all of his albums. With what I have bought over the last few weeks (About 10 Matt CD's) I must have almost everything now myself as I had rather a lot already!

Why do record companies (EMI and their sublabels are famous for this) continue to release COMPILATION CDs? One or two comprehensive compilation CDs or a box set would be sufficient for goodness sake. Back to Bassey for a sec here, there are probably hundreds of compilation CDs as well as certain actual albums that have been re-released by various companies under a ton of different titles. EMI have been truly shameful in issuing her albums on CD. It took an independent to start re-mastering and issuing them on CD. Matt's catalogue isn't anywhere as bad though. The fans of these singers want crispy-clear, re-mastered versions of their catalogue....just my two cents (or tuppence).

It's an argument Michele has had many times

If it were up to them we would have had only "The Best of", "The Very Best of" "Greatest Hits" etc constantly for years! Thankfully Michele has a great relationship with Steve Woof at EMI gold so that projects (we hope) are more interesting.

It's all down to what they think will sell at the end of the day. Michele had to fight to release the Rare Monro but this has sold incredibly well so it was easier to get the Rarer Monro confirmed.

In an ideal world we would re-release all of Matt's albums, but we shall have to see what happens (EMI is currently for sale and we don't know what this will mean in the future).

One point though "The Very Best Of Matt Monro" is the best selling Matt CD of all time!!

Very interesting reading Richard.

It's too bad someone has to fight to get an artists material released on cd though, wish someone could do the same for VInce Hill.

Some years ago Paul Howes worked with Mike Gill to get Dusty's back catalogue on release, not long after it was released Mike sadly passed away but Paul is still doing a good job ensuring Dusty is not forgotten.

Also agree with Shirley Bassey it took BGO to get her old albums on to cd, EMI only seem to release her old Columbia material on cd.

I would also like Jackie Trent's back catalogue released on cd, even when I was her website manager record companies just ignore you when you put such a question to them. I feel the younger generation ae being denied the chance to hear a wealth of great recordingsl

I agree Karl-there is such a lot of great material, that few people get to hear nowadays-purely because they are not on cd.

Exactly Marian, Jack Jones is a prime example - all those brilliant albums that have never seen the light of day on cd and I hear he's not that interested in having them released on cd - if I were him I would be so proud of them that Id want a new generation to hear my music.

It's the same when you go to the Solid SIlver 60's Shows many of the singers are as good as they were but they can't get a recording contract, many of them record cd's for sale at their shows.

Eh gals and guys, thanks for the responses! Wasn't quite sure if y'all would be in agreement, but cool responses. I guess it does come donw to the buck. I've been following EMI owes over the last couple of years. I would so not like them to be taken over by another giant in the likes of SONY/BMG. EMI is a British institution. Still not happy about the Cadbury acquisition by Kraft! (And Kraft is one of our big clients at work.)

Has Matt's solo version of DUsty's I Close My Eyes & Count To Ten been released on cd? I know it's on Jnr's cd but I'd like to hear it by Matt solo.

Now that Richard has told me I have the tracks from the LP's I am bidding on it will be sod's law that I win them as so far nobody has bid against me but of course it could happen in the closing minutes.

In the past I have bid a rather high amount for a very rare single of Jackie Trent singing in Italian, it only appears every few years and I have never been lucky, I even called her up to ask if she was bidding against me!!!!

You will have to put it back onto Ebay,. and try and sell it on.

They have free listing days every other weekend--the latest being this very weekend.
