More Radio Interviews Discovered

Post by hpooch » Tue Aug 02, 2011 4:14 am

Hi Richard -
I received an E-Mail from Maureen & Harry seeking some of my Matt Monro Audio Cassettes. In reviewing 2 broadcasts I found one
from 2 Feb 1995 which was done by Don Black on BBC-2 on the 10th Anniversary of Matt's death. I originally thought this was an audio of
the DVD - A Portrait of Matt Monro - but it is completely different. It has interviews with Mickie, George Martin, Dave Allen, Frankie Vaughn,
and Jeff Hooper(who tells about the time in 1982 when Matt taught Jeff how to hand tie a Bow Tie). It is an hour show and you probably
have it already, but I could not find it on your Special Reserve Booklet under Radio Broadcasts. Another Radio Program I couldn't find in the
Special Reserve was a "Playback" program by Bernard Jackson that lasted an hour, but the cassette I have only has the interview with Matt,
with the music edited out(so it lasts only 30 minutes). I think I sent you both of the above many years ago, but maybe I didn't, or you didn't list them in the SR Booklet.
Please let me know if you have the above, and also the short Hollywood cassette tape I sent to you 2 weeks ago.
Thanks, Henry

Hi Henry,

Thanks for keeping us up to date with your findings, however on this occasion we know about (and have) both recordings.

The Don Black introduced Tribute was called “Portrait Of A Song Stylist” and was actually broadcast on 7th February 1995.

“Playback” is not listed in Special Reserve for one simple reason. We don’t know much about it!! We know the presenter and producer, but we don’t know the radio station or even the year – let alone a time of broadcast which makes it very hard to list. The BBC have no record of the show – it might even have been made for local radio broadcast, we just don’t know. I have managed to piece together a complete version of the show from two different sources and restored all the music – but it’s still not exactly broadcast quality. However if you have any more information on the show please let us know.

Richard

The reason the radio wasn't listed in Special Reserve is because I only really included things before dad died, otherwise the list would have gone on forever. Maybe when paper gets cheaper we can add them!!
