Eurovision Matt

Post by michduncg » Thu Jun 15, 2006 11:55 am

Hello everyone

One thing I noticed that was absent from the 'Man with the Golden VOice' documentary was any reference to Matt representing th UK in the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest. Matt was the first of a succession of top UK performers who sang for the UK in the 1960s, Lulu, Sandie Shaw, Kathy Kirby and Cliff Richard were the others. The uptempo - 'I love the little things', penned by Tony Hatch came 2nd.

Nowadays of course, representing the UK in the Eurovision is a poison chalice. I am curious as to how Matt became involved, and whether he viewed this as a 'high' or 'low' point in his career. Anyone care to comment? Personally, I think the song was great, in a typical Eurovision up-tempo kind of way. Also, did he do much other work with Tony Hatch?

Thanks

Mike G

Hello Mike and everyone. I will reply to your post Mike. We have discussed this subject on other pages on the forum in the past.
I don't think Matt recorded much else with Tony Hatch, none that I know of anyway apart from "I Love The Little Thing's". I don't even think they made an album to go along with the single. I mentioned on here a couple of week's ago that the winner in 1964 was played on Pick of The Pop's. Matt's entry didn't even make the British chart's, which was rather strange, as in those year's all our Eurovision entries did rather well in our chart's.

After Lordi won this year's contest, we all agreed on here that we would not even bother with it anymore, as it has gone beyond a joke now.

Anyway Mike, welcome to the MM forum, you have posted some nice interesting post's so far. I read your other post's on the" Your Other Favourite Artist's" page.

Hi Mike--you would normally get a reply to your posting fairly quickly--but everone is into WORLD CUP at the moment---they have all gone a bit football-crazy!!

This is a very active forum, as you will find out in due course.

Hello all. Yes it is hard to keep up with thing's at the moment, with three live matches screened every day during the group qualifying stage. Thing's should calm down a bit after the group matches finish, but only a bit. :) :)
