Thanks Richard. There is an immediate and noticeable difference in the.. before and after of "I'm Just Breezing Along " and realise what your work means and what has to be done and removed,to stiil keep the originality of the recording. :)

I tried, but I'm afraid I couldn't access the pages from your links Richard. :? :? I'm sure they'll make interesting reading.
I did read your testimonial from Michele though. Very well deserved. :D

Many thanks Richard. I've read your 'Yesterday' restoration notes and intend to go back to the others.
As I said they are interesting to read, and make the album even more special when you can understand all the stages of work that result in such a perfect end product. It sounds as near as perfect to us anyway.
The loud bangs you mention at one stage, at a recent Jack Jones concert, two loud bangs like gunshots, were heard right at the beginning. Could these have been from the same source as on Matt's recording, and still happening today?
Marian

Highly Likely.

There are two types of microphone in general use.

Dynamic and Condenser

I won’t go into to much detail, suffice it to say that Dynamics work straight into any mixing console where as Condensers need power (48 volts – known as Phantom Power) If there is a loose connection in a cable feeding a condenser microphone then power will sometimes be momentarily lost creating a “Spike” though the system that creates a loud bang.

Back in 1966 they may even have been using Valve powered microphones (Still used in studios today but rarely in a live situation), which had their own power sources. Once again a dodgy cable would create the same results!

I can’t say for sure exactly if this is what happened on both occasions but it is by far the most likely.

If any of you guys are interested I'll post a couple of Before and After clips on my site to show the difference between the original tape and the finished product.

Yes please, Richard. I'm sure the others will be interested too when they get around to reading this thread.
That's one of the bonuses of being retired, you can catch up sooner than most.
Thanks for the explanation too, you are a mine of information.

Sorry Richard. I couldn't find the additional audio clips from 'Yesterday,' but the links from the home page are now working fine.
I've found it now, but only by going through your 'news' link given on your previous posting. Direct from your website, the new info doesn't show up.
Marian :D

IT'S ALL OKAY NOW. THANK YOU RICHARD.

I knew it was working as I tested it before for posting here - sometime takes time for servers and internet cache to catch up!

I can hardly believe it, but someone has a copy of 'Yesterday' on ebay with a starting price of 99p.
It is described as "used, but plays perfectly".
Even before it is officially released.
